Geek's Thoughts & Observations

Changes are on the horizon for Port Discovery. The StormRider attraction will be closing to make way for a Finding Nemo based attraction. With this change I would think the feel of the port will change. Not sure how it will keep a weather theme without a weather attraction. So it will be interesting to see what happens. I was happy to be able to visit it while in its original form.

Port Discovery is located on the Tokyo Bay side of the park and has no real buffer or buildings. So the wind and weather blow right into this portion of the park. It seemed most of the time I visited to be substantially worse weather wise here than most of the park because of this.

My 1st Impressions from April 2015:

  • Aquatopia - the concept sounds great.  A trackless ride system through some water.   The pictures I saw even looked interesting.  The ride itself was not very fun.  You sit in a cart that drives through shallow water.  The technology and randomness were interesting but the ride itself just was not that fun to me.  I enjoyed watching it from on shore more than ridding.

  • Storm Rider -  It was all in Japanese but you can get the basic story line without needing to know what was being said.  The ride itself was a large simulator theater..  think Star Tours but several times larger.  The movement was ok but the screen seemed dated after seeing the clean digital 3D of Star Tours.  The in theater effects included water.. which after being out in the rain was not that enjoyable.

  • One of the DisneySea Electric Railway stops is here. I always enjoy transportation based attractions and the railway was no exception. I went for several rides in both directions to see the sights, look around, and just enjoy the experience.
