Disney's Animal Kingdom - Asia

Welcome to Anandapur, Disney's Animal Kingdom's Asia section. Here you can ride down an out of control river, take a train ride to Mt. Everest, view birds in flight, or visit some Tigers. There are four main attractions in Anandapur. Kali River Rapids, where you take a white-water rafting trip down the Chakarnadi River. Maharajah Jungle Trek where you can spy tigers, Komodo dragons, bats, and more. Expedition Everest opened in 2006 and gives you the oportunity to travel to this great mountain, but beware of the Yeti. Finally you have the Flights of Wonder show where you can see a wide variety of birds up close.

Geek's Thoughts & Suggestions

The Maharajah Jungle Trek I offer the same advice as I do for the Kilimanjaro Safaris and Pangani Forest in Africa, go through it several times and take your time. If the Tigers are not doing much or you can't see them another fun thing to do is search for hidden Mickey's in the murals, there are several along the trail.

Kali River Rapids is a combination of your typical raft ride combined with a great story. The queue itself for this attraction is an attraction in itself. You travel through the marketplace of Anandapur as you wait for your journey to begin. I was extremely disappointed in the attraction. Yes you get really wet, but other than that its just a raft ride. I enjoyed the Grizzly River Rapids at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim a whole lot more. Yes the theming is incredible and the storyline solid for Kali unlike its DCA cousin, but the ride itself is no where close in my book. One other plus of the DCA attraction are free lockers to keep your possessions dry and not a center area like Kali has.

Take advantage of Fastpass for Kali, unless your there early or late or on a cold day. With the limited number of attractions in Animal Kingdom the lines can get really long really fast. We found it best to get a FastPass and then go and enjoy the various walking trails and shows in between attractions. This way you get to see and do everything with very little waiting in line.

We really enjoy watching the Flights of Wonder show, only complaint is its hot sometimes..

Expedition Everest opened to great Fanfare on April 7, 2006 (the 8th to the general public). This is a high speed coaster that travels both forwards and backwards as you journey to Mt. Everest but on your trek you encounter the Yeti.. This attraction is really altering the traffic flow in the park. In the mornings at park opening now you can see almost an equal amount of guests splitting between Everest and the Safari. From that stand point its great because it disperses the crowd to opposite ends of the park. The attraction itself is definitely worth checking out, even if your not going to ride (like me). The queue area is set up as a village and the mountain is impressive. We overheard several people asking the nature of the ride.. its a roller coaster that goes forward and backward, but no loops. There are some solid g-forces on a couple of the helix turns and a really good drop too.
