Critter Country

Critter Country used to hold one of my favorite attractions. The Country Bear Jamboree. I just really enjoyed this attraction. It was a relaxing atmosphere and an entertaining show, with usually a short wait time. The big draw to this land for most people is Splash Mountain. Disney has done a great job in taking the typical log ride idea and really expanding it into an attraction.

Currently the entire area is under rennovation in preparation for a new attraction. In 2001 the Bears sang their last song and have been evicted from their playhouse. Rumor is by 2003 a new Winnie the Pooh attraction will be in their place. I really do not like this on so many levels. The first is they closed one of my favorite attractions. The second is I do not see how Pooh fits in with Critter Country, a more natural fit would have been Fantasyland (yeah I know he is a Critter, but it just doesn't work for me). Then to top things off the rumor is Disneyland will be getting basically the same type of attraction that exists at WDW (which dislodged another of my favorite attractions there, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, but that is another story). At least you would have thought Disneyland would get the much more technically advanced and innovative attraction that Tokyo Disneyland got, but nope... well if the rumors hold true... Also add in the pending lawsuit on the rights to Pooh.

Disney has added FastPass to Splash Mountain and this has wreaked havoc on the traffic patterns for this area. It always seems busy with people moving about. Do not be discouraged, the attractions are still worth going to. They have relocated the Fastpass distribution for Splash Mountain to try to alleviate some of these problems and it has worked, but once you add the Pooh attraction I am guessing traffic will become an issue again.

Geek's Suggestions
If you want to ride Splash Mountain without a wait there are basically three times the line is short(FastPass has altered this slightly but as a rule it still works). One is at the beginning of the day, the second is at the end of the day, and the third is when it is cold or raining (which only happens a couple days a year in Southern California). The other great option to save time is the Single Riders line. It allows you to bypass the queue and wait for an available seat. As soon as one comes you get to go. The drawback to this is you do not get to ride with your friends/family.
