Trip Log:
A 4am alarm to be ready to go at 4:30. No traffic this morning and no delays at parking, checkin or at TSA and I was at the gate at a few minutes after 6 for my 7:50am flight. The flight left on time and arrived into MCO a few minutes early. Picked up our bags, ate, then caught a bus to Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. Arrived a few minutes after 5pm and headed to the room. Unpacked a bit and cleared some work then departed for EPCOT. Strolled along the Boardwalk and into the International Gateway. Walked through the United Kingdom and Canada on my way to World Celebration Gardens. Took a look at Figment then took a right to World Discovery. Glanced at Test Track then picked up my pace to walk around the rest of World Showcase and make the 8pm performance at the American Gardens Stage. Listened to a few songs then continued on around World Showcase. Decided to try single rider for Ratatouille which turned out to be about a two minute wait. After my ride checked the weather and it showed rain in the area. I hung around the International Gateway trying to make a decision at showtime walked up and watched the opening of Luminous the Symphony of Us which was accompanied by lightning this evening. I left after the opening sequence and walked quickly back to the Boardwalk. Watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Boardwalk then returned to my room to call it a night.
Thoughts & Observations:
- My day started off well before sunrise with an early morning drive to LAX. We allowed plenty of time, and of course, that meant everything went extremely quickly, and we were there way too early. For example, after parking, we were walking to the bus, and a bus stopped outside the normal route to pick us up and save us the walk and wait time even!
- The airport was not overly busy, so check-in and security both moved quickly, too. The longest queue we saw was at Starbucks in the terminal.
- The flight boarded on time and pushed back a bit early. Overall it was an uneventful flight. I was disappointed in the food as usual. I prefer simple options and the French toast I ordered was far from that. One fun interaction. As we were boarding and they were making the welcome announcement they announced a new program where Delta Sky Miles Members can pay a reduced rate of $1 to use the restroom onboard. Which caught the attention of many travelers aruond us.. then he said April Fools...
- We arrived a few minutes early into MCO and, of course, landed on the far side of the airport from the gate, so we got a scenic tour of the airport. The bags came out relatively quickly and we decided to eat in the food court before boarding the bus to Disney.
- Used MearsConnect and had only a few minute wait to board the bus and a moderate wait before leaving the terminal. We had to stop in Terminal C to pick up some other guests, and we were the third stop at Disney, so not too bad.
- While on the bus, we received a text that our room at the Boardwalk was ready, so upon arrival, we headed right for it. They did not honor our request and we were quite a ways from the lobby.
- Since my last stay in the Boardwalk Villas the rooms have been renovated. The first impression of the new look is a more simplified feel like all the other resorts have done. The pull-down bed replacing the old couch fold-out is the best improvement in my book. The room layout and offerings are the same as before. There were plenty of accessible outlets with USB power options. I thought the new furniture was less than ideal. For example, the new kitchen table bench has ends on it, so you cannot easily slide on/off. Also the drawers in the living room are so shallow they are not that usable for most things you may want to put in there. The Boardwalk artwork with the characters are great to see and the wall vs shutters for the bathroom in the bedroom makes more sense. One annoyance that does not make sense to me is the bathroom fan is linked to the sink light and not the shower light still.
- Set off for EPCOT for the evening after unpacking and clearing some work items. The weather was on the swampy side, hot and humid. The park had people but did not feel overly crowded which was nice.
- There was rain forecasted for overnight but you could see clouds and lightning in the area around the park, so had to keep an eye on that throughout my time as I did not take rain gear and did not want to get soaked my first night.
- I had no real agenda for the evening so just wandered around World Showcase taking some pictures and enjoying the park. I stopped for a performance by the local band playing tonight, a couple songs were more than enough and I moved on.
- As Luminous was starting a bolt hit toward the Riviera. This shut down the boats and Skyliner. I watched the opening sequence then decided to start walking back to the hotel to try and avoid the rain. On my way I watched Luminous and then the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Boardwalk.
