Walt Disney World Day 3 Report

May 6, 2005

Trip Log:

Our day started before sunrise with a 5:45am wakeup call. We were our front of the Resort by 6:00am to catch a cab to the Palm Golf Course. Were checked in and on the practice range just as first light was starting to show itself. After emptying a bucket of balls we were called to the tee by the started and went off as the second group of the day around ten to seven. Played our round then took a cab back to Pop Century. Met for lunch and realized one member of our group lost his room key/ID/annual pass etc.. After almost 30 minutes of calls to the golf course, the cab company, etc.. someone returned to our room and saw the message light was on. It was the front desk saying they had our missing cards.. somehow the items fell out in the gift shop and were turned in. GREAT to see. Went to Everything Pop for lunch and back to the room for showers. After a brief break it was off to our first park of the Day, the Studios. We walked down Hollywood Blvd and out to the backlot to grab Fastpasses for the Lights Motors Action show. While waiting for the 3:15 show we went to the Muppets and then over to the Great Movie Ride before heading back to line up for the show. We showed up right as they started to allow people to move into the first queue area. After working through the maze and wait we ended up with a good view of the show. Once the show concluded we hiked back to the front of the park and took the Friendship launch over to the Yacht Club were we disembarked and walked to EPCOT. Walked over to Futureworld making a brief stop at the Land to see the change. First real stop was the Living Seas, with the goal of seeing Turtle Talk. After waiting about 15 minutes we entered the show. Next up we headed back to World Showcase and Canada for dinner followed by a trip around the world, starting at Canada and heading to Mexico and around to the American Adventure area. Stopped to watch the 8:15 concert and then continued our loop past Japan, etc.. and back to the entrance to World Showcase/Future World to watch Illuminations. Once the final shell rang out we headed with the heard to the bus stop and got the first bus to pull up to head back to the resort and to get some sleep.

Thoughts & Observations:

  • This trip we decided to play Disney's Palm golf course.. The course was tough. We lost several golf balls and all shot fairly bad, even for us. The new greens were great. It was weird for us to play on a course that had greens that read that true. Too bad we do not know how to read greens too well.

  • Caught the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show in the afternoon. We ended up with fairly good seats, thanks to Fastpass. The show itself is fairly good. I thought the storyline and the assistant director/director got on my nerves a bit. The car stunts themselves were really impressive to see the drivers put their cars through the paces in such a confined space. I thought the show kind of lagged in spots, but I guess that is needed to set up the next stunt, etc.. Also I thought the idea of "tricking" the audience over and over again was wearing a bit thin. I video taped the show and when playing it back can condense it to about 15 minutes of interesting show to watch.

  • Went for a trip on Great Moments at the Movies, and the attraction really is in need of some TLC, it really seems to be faded and in need of some sprusing up and a new scene or two and new clips in the final package. Also wonder if the huge hat will ever leave to restore the great views of the buildings facade.

  • Stopped by to see how the Land looked and check out the new food court. The pavilian looks great, bright, and almost new. It was extremely weird to see large crowds entering, leaving, and milling around. Have not seen that in years. Soarin' really does bring people in. I thought the overall look inside worked ok. The new food court looks impressive, but I did not like the menu selection at all and really found nothing that would draw me in to eat there and it appeared that many others felt the same. There were quite a few people walking around and at the attractions, but no real lines at the food area. I think there are some traffic problems, the stairway on the right as you enter, the one right by Soarin' was jamed and near a standstill while the other one was nearly empty. Seems to me another or a wider staircase might be needed.

  • Next up was the Living Seas to see the two new additions since our last trip, Turtle Talk and Bruce's area. Turtle Talk was really good.. I thought the technology was impressive, the show really engaged the audience and was a great experience for all. I got to talk to Crush, but they goofed. Crush wanted to talk to the dude in the back with the red shell.. the CM stopped by me for some reason, even though I had a white shirt on, so not sure who goofed there. I did not even have my hand up, I was sitting there trying to get a good picture or two.

  • Ate dinner at Le Cellier, which is our second favorite restaurant at WDW (first is Yachtsman). The food was great as usual. The service was amongst the worst we have ever had. Our server was a couple weeks past due in returning home and it really showed that he was not really into his role.

  • Watched Illuminations from just in front of the gift shop at the entrance to World Showcase, this show still is one of my all time favorites. I rank it right behind the new Remember Dreams Come True show at Disneyland.
