Walt Disney World Day 9 Report

May 20, 2004

Trip Log:

Started the morning with no wake-up call, but still up around 7am. Grabbed breakfast at the lounge then headed for MGM by way of Friendship launch. Walked down by Tower and Rockin’. Some road Rockin’ then we decided to skip Tower and head out. Took the bus to the Animal Kingdom. Walked around a bit, out to the Boneyard then over to Pizzafari for lunch before walking through the Tree of Life Gardens on our way over to see Tarzan Rocks. After the show took the bus back to the Beach Club. We regrouped in the room and then headed off for EPCOT by foot. Hiked across the park and through Innoventions. Then over to Universe of Energy before heading to the front of the park and took the monorail to the TTC, then the Ferry Boat to the Magic Kingdom then the Bus back to the Beach Club. Headed down to dinner at Yachtsman, followed by dessert at the lounge then mini golfing at Fantasia Gardens on the Fairways.

Thoughts & Observations:

  • The Theme for today was transportation, with the days running down, we were moving between parks and resorts quite a bit and overall it seems all our good luck with busses, monorails, etc.. came back to bite us today and we dealt with some really slow busses and long waits all day...

  • First stop was the Disney-MGM Studios. Took the Friendship Launch over, and those are just slow, not a long wait luckily. Tower of Terror was already over a 30 minute wait within 10 minutes of park opening.

  • We waited for almost 30 minutes for a bus to show up to take us to the Animal Kingdom from the Studios. We saw two EPCOT busses come and go, both private subcontractors, not Disney busses. Our bus over to the Animal Kingdom was a private contractor too and it was a great bus. We talked with the driver and he said the problem Disney is having is with bus drivers, they simply did not have enough. They were going to be hire something like 100 more in the coming months to fully staff the department again. It ended up taking us over an hour to get from the Studios to Animal Kingdom.

  • This was one of our hotest days, and thanks to Animal Kingdom's overall bowl design the park was extremely hot.

  • Tarzan Rocks singers slightly better than we remembered, but still do not do the songs justice.

  • Also we ran into a major time delay with the Magic Kingdom Ferry, for some reason it seemed to be cycling in about half hour trips with only one running... guess timing is everything and we could have taken the monorail but wanted to go out on the lake..
  • We played the Fairways at Fantasia gardens in the evening, still an incredbly tough course, even at a second crack at it.
