Walt Disney World Day 8 Report

May 19, 2004

Trip Log:

Started off the morning with no wake up call, but we were still up by 7:30 and up to the lounge and on our way to Animal Kingdom by slightly after 9am. Upon arrival at the park I headed for Fastpasses for the Safari and the rest of the group headed for Kali River Rapids. I joined them and we road it, got fairly wet, but managed to dry out in an hour or so. Next up a stroll through the Jungle Trek to see the Tigers, not much happening. Then headed over for the Wonders of Flight show. The birds were not too corporative. After the show it was off to take our Safari then a nice stroll through the Tree of Life gardens followed by lunch from Flame Tree BBQ and Restaurantousarous. After lunch we headed out of the park and took a bus to the TTC (Transportation and Ticket Center) and the Resort Monorail around to the Contemporary. Sent half the group off on a fishing excursion, grabbed an ICEE and walked back to the Magic Kingdom bus stops and road out to Saratoga Springs. Took the boat to Downtown Disney (by way of Old Key West, then back to Saratoga, then a brief stop at the Westside before finally arriving at DD). Bought the items on our list then took the bus back to the Beach Club. After the rain stopped we headed for EPCOT. Walked through France on our way to watch the Animal’s perform at the American Gardens stage. After a few songs we headed for the boat from Italy to Canada. Then walked over to grab a Fastpass for Test Track and then go visit Universe of Energy, unfortunately it was closed…. So after realizing there was no food open we decided to do the standby line for Test Track (there was no wait). Then we hiked it over to the Beach Club for some take out from Beach’s and Cream before heading to the room to call it an early evening.

Thoughts & Observations:

  • We experienced Kali River Rapids this morning, and after riding Grizzle River Rapids at DCA I found myself wanting more on this ride. You can get wetter on the AK ride, but the DCA one seemed better overall to us. The theming in AK was better, but maybe it was the smaller rafts, quicker pace, or something that put GRR ahead for us...

  • Saratoga Springs opened whil we were there, there was still a lot of construction going on with more to come in the coming years as the Resort is expanded. The signage and feel of the "main area" was like Celebrations.

  • We road the launch from Saratoga Springs to Downtown Disney. They have replaced the older ones with newer boats, that seem a bit larger, but also a lot slower. We were waiting at the dock at Saratoga Springs and a boat showed up within a couple minutes, unfortunately we boarded and were taken out to Old Key West, then back, before heading to the West Side for a quick stop then finally onto the Marketplace which was our destination. This trip took almost an hour to complete, which really aggravated us...

  • This just wasn't our day, transportation wise. The bus from the Magic Kingdom to Saratoga Springs had no air conditioning, then the bus from Downtown Disney back to the Beach Club never went above 30 mph it seemed and we stopped at Typhoon Lagoon on the way, so it was a long trip...

  • Two questions: Why does future world close at 7pm? Especially the food locations like the Pizza place by Test Track?
