Trip Log:
Started the morning off later than usual, with a
7:30 wakeup time. Went to the resort’s fast food
for breakfast then wandered around taking some pictures
before we checked out. Took the DD bus out to DD by
way of Typhoon lagoon, then hopped on a bus for the
Beach Club (its scheduled stop was the AKL, but the
driver was friendly and said after a quick stop at Typhoon
he would take us directly to the Beach Club. Checked
into the Beach Club then hiked over to EPCOT. Through
England, then into Future World. Through Innovations
West and then road Journey into Imagination. Next up
the Land and the Circle of life movie. Grabbed a Fastpass
for Living with the Land and ate lunch at the Food Court.
After eating it was time to ride Living with the Land.
Next up the Living Seas, then a stroll out of the park
via the Rose Trail and International Gateway. Back to
the Beach Club. Checked out the Concierge Lounge and
then finished the checkin process and went to our room.
Unpacked and caught our breath before heading down to
the bus stop and over to DD. Walked through the Marketplace
and then made it to our 5:20 reservation at Fultons
for dinner. Afterwards, finished up going through the
Marketplace then bussed back to the Beach Club. Grabbed
a snack in the Lounge then walked over to EPCOT and
found a spot for Illuminations. Then back to the resort,
grabbed some water then called it a night.
Thoughts & Observations:
- This was really my first time to walk the Pop Century Resort
during the daytime to get a feel for its size and scope. After
spending an hour walking around and not doubling up on my path
I can fairly say its a large, spread out resort. Once the second
phase is completed and opened this will be a mega resort complex.
There is a walking/jogging trail that will go around the lake
as well as a bridge connecting the two halves.
- The transfer from Pop Century to the Beach Club went well. We
were a bit worried since the luggage services at Pop Century said
to just leave the bags in the room and they would pick them up
and move them (at other resorts they do this with you in the room,
here they did not), so we had no receipt or anything... We took
our carryons (laptop, camera, etc) over ourselves. We took the
bus out to Downtown Disney then transfered to the Beach Club bus
to head there. If was a long bus ride with stops at Typhoon Lagoon
both ways. (The transfer from the AKL to the Yacht Club last trip
was much nicer in terms of the bus ride). Our luggage showed up
in our room later in the day as planned and there were no problems
with the transfer at all. Our room was not ready upon arrival,
so we headed to EPCOT.
- Journey Into Imagination used to be one of our favorite attractions.
The ride itself was entertaining and the upstairs of the imageworks
offered a great view. The original attraction always seemed to
have a line or at least guests around. The current version of
the attraction always seems to be a walkon when we stop by, as
it was this time.
- The Living Seas has started to have a Finding Nemo overlay
applied to it. Outside there is a fairly large display for pictures.
Inside Nemo signs are starting to show up. Overall it seems to
be wokring. This was the busiest we have seen it in years. With
actual crowds inside. Its still sad that the seacabs are down...
wonder if they will ever come back. At the least I think it would
be nice to walk through the tunnels...
- We had heard on the Internet about the extreme size of the Soarin'
show building and how it towers over that part of the park. Since
this day consisted of the West half of Future World only brief
glimpses of the building were visible and it looked large, but
not dominating. (NOTE: On later days we go to World Showcase
and other areas of the park and it is really big.. especially
from across the lagoon towering over Canada).
- The Soarin’ queue has no visible signs of progress due
to the solid wall and coverings. Seems to me they should complete
the area inside the Land done as quickly as possible to get the
walls down and to help traffic flow.
- Upon returning to the Beach club we visited the Concierge lounge
and checked into our room. Our first impression of the lounge
is that it was smaller than Yacht Clubs with slightly less food.
The biggest change was if you wanted a Soda you had to ask someone
behind the counter. This would be fine, expect getting the CMs
attention was usually a challenge and it frustrated many guests,
including us. Also they did not have regular size bottled water,
only a large (I think it was 2 liter) size.
- We had reserved a "deluxe" room on the conceirge
floor which is the 5th. Upon checking in they told us our room
was on the 4th... red flags went up in all our minds... the CM
assured us it was a great room and to check it out before complaining...
so we did. We went down to the 4th floor and started to walk and
locate our room. We headed down a long hallway, made a left down
another hallway, then another left and we were at the end of this
hallway, it was quite a hike and we were all thinking to ourselves
this ought to be good or else we are really going to be aggravated
if were stuck with this 1/4" hike to the elevators and lounge.
We opened the door and a marble floor was before us and a hallway
about 10 feet look that led to a window straigh ahead with a painting
on our left. We walked in and down the hall. Looked to the right
and saw a long (probably 40 foot) walkway with window and a sliding
door on our left, a doorway straight ahead to a small patio, and
as we walked forwward the bathroom followed by two queen beds
on the right and then a day bed on the left with a table and in
its own little out cove with a window behind it. We were really
amazed and pleased with size of the room. It was much larger than
the standard size room and all the windows and two small patios
were great. We had a combination of a pool view, garden view,
courtyard view, and in the distance lake/boardwalk view upon combining
all the windows. We were more than pleased with the room, but
the hike to the elevators and lounge was long, but worth it. Also
there was a stairwell straight out from our room that would let
out right by the Cape May Cafe's back side(near Arial's). Which
was great, almost our own private staircase.
- We had dinner at Fulton's which was great as usual. Only complaint
was the slow service, which seems to be a common occurance there.
The food more than makes up for it though.
