Trip Log:
Started off the day at 4am and heading to LAX around
5am. The plane was delayed an hour. Got into Orlando
late then and headed by Quicksilver Transportation.
Checked into the Pop Century Resort, dumped our bags
in the room and headed for dinner at the resort then
a bus to the Magic Kingdom. Stopped by the ticket window
to buy our Annual Passes then it was down Main Street,
and into Tomorrowland. Grabbed a Fastpass for Buzz then
headed up to the TTA (People Mover – Tomorrowland
Transit Authority. We spotted that Carousel of Progress
was open and jumped down on it. Then it was time for
Buzz. Road it, around 65,000 points, not too bad. Strolled
through Tomorrowland and Fantasyland on our way to Mickey’s
Philamagic. Watched the show then wondered toward Frontierland.
Road Haunted Mansion then it was time to queue up for
Wishes. After the show, headed up stream and into Adventureland.
Took a spin on Aladdin’s Carpets then visited
Pirates. Walked down by Splash then headed for the exits
and the bus back to the resort.
Thoughts & Observations:
- We used a new, for us, Towncar service this trip. Quicksilver
Tours. The service was great, the driver was waiting for us, and
everything went smoothly. We did a customary grocery stop on the
way to Disney too. One nice plus our driver did was a great surprise
as we entered Disney World. (Highlight the next line to read
it if you wish:)
Our driver played a great mix of Disney
theme park music upon entering Disney property. It started off
with the Main Street train boarding call and went through such
classics as the Tiki r

oom.
- Our goal of the day was to see the new additions to the Magic
Kingdom since our last visit. PhilharMagic and Wishes. Neither
disappointed.
- PhilharMagic was a great addition to the long line of Disney
3D films. I would have to say its my favorite. Seeing classic
Disney characters in 3D was impressive. Several of the scenes
had me sitting there in awe.. while a couple others did not work
for me. I thought the 3D Mickey, Donald, instruments, and B&B
characters were the best. The Aladdin and Little Mermaid segments
were at the bottom of my list. The show is continuing to pack
guests in, but the lines kept moving and we never saw a line longer
than a one show wait... where as the Little Mermaid over at the
Studios and the old Lion King show seemed to always have waits
longer than that... or maybe we just had good timing.
- Now onto Wishes. I found the show to be a huge leap from Fantasy
in the Sky, but not quite as good as Believe @ Disneyland. The
larger shells and more elaborate lighting scheme on the castle
are a step forward from Believe and really show off what you can
do with the space and size of Florida, but the soundtrack and
flow of the show did sit well with me. It was great to see Main
Street jammed with Guests, just as Disneyland is.
- We were able to experience two classics that we miss from Disneyland
(the People Mover and Carousel of Progress). It was nice to sit
back and relax on both. The CoP show had a minor glitch, seemed
the building's gear slipped or something, but it recovered and
we moved on. I thought the CoP smelled a bit musty (old), but
the show was still great. Its interesting to look around and watch
first time guests.. the show still has a spark.
- There were several projects going on around the park and the
rehab walls gave me Disneyland flashbacks, but not bad. The Sub
Lagoon and a couple stores were walled off.
- Since the crowds were light and we had some time we road two
classics (Pirates & Haunted Mansion). We all commented on
Pirates seemed to end way too fast. Someone muttered if they could
add the Queue from WDW to the attraction from Disneyland it would
be an awesome version of the attraction. Also I keep forgetting
that in WDW you don't get to ride up the waterfall.
- This was our first day at WDW so we were still on West Coast
time and excited to have arrived so we took advantage of the extended
hours for Disney Resort guests. The Extra Hours of Magic program
was in a test phase for our entire trip (good timing for us).
Basically what happens is as closing time appproaches CMs are
stationed at designated areas and if you present your resort ID
you are given a wristband that shows you are elgible for the extra
time. After closing time CMs at the limited attractions that are
open ask to see your wristband before you are allowed into the
queue or onto the attraction. The system is similiar to what they
do for the E-nights and other after hour programs. It was a nice
feature and we heard several other resort guests comment on how
they enjoyed the time.
