May 14, 2025 - Day 9: Tokyo Disney Resort & Travel Home

Slept in this morning until almost 6am, spent some time packing then went to breakfast at the Sheraton Club.   After breakfast finished up packing then set off for the Resort Gateway.  We stopped by the Maihama station and traded in our Suica cards then spent some time at Bon Voyage and roaming around Ikspairi before heading back to the Sheraton.  Managed to get a seat in the front of the Resort Liner so went for a round trip before disembarking the second time through Bay Side Station.   Walked back to the Sheraton and did a final check of the room and headed down to the 1st floor at checkout which was noon.   Around 12:40pm a staff member saw us sitting there and checked us in for the 1pm bus and escorted us outside to wait.   The bus showed on time and we made a few stops before leaving Disney for the airport.   No delays checking in or with customs.   Spent a few hours in the club then walked down to the gate just before boarding. The flight pushed back early and due to favorable winds arrived in Los Angeles almost a half hour early.  No delays at immigration or customs and we were on the parking lot shuttle quickly. Found our car and headed home to wrap up this trip.

Thoughts & Observations
  • Today is our travel home day. This morning we spent the time packing up and preparing to leave.   Checkout time is noon, so we were in no hurry.  We thought about asking for an extension to 12:30 so we could go straight to the bus but figured that was more effort than it was worth and we would just spend the time waiting in the lobby instead.
  • Spent some time at Ikspairi and Bon Voyage once they opened.  Also returned our Suica cards to get the deposit back.
  • On the way back to the Sheraton we spotted the front seats were open so we sat there and decided to stay on for a full round trip. It is a fun view from the front and was a great way to wrap up our Disney time.
  • As planned we found a spot in the lower level lobby and waited for the airport bus.  Interesting a worker from the hotel approached us about 20 min before pickup and had a list of names and confirmed we were good to go.  Then as it got close to the time for the bus they helped us outside to wait.  The bus showed up on time as usual and we were on our way.  We had a number of stops and drove around the Tokyo Disney Resort for a while picking up some other guests before departing for the airport. At the airport the international terminal is the last stop so you get to drive around the airport for a while too.
  • The checkin process was quick with no wait.  Same with security and customs.  We were at the Delta Sky Club with no delays and a long wait.  The club was very busy with a number of flights leaving in the next few hours, ours was one of the last ones in the group.   There were not many empty seats and they were seating you, so you did not have a choice of views.  We ended up looking toward the city which was not the best but it was a window seat at least.   The selection of food was about the same as previous visits. There seemed to be more snacks available this time, including fresh popcorn.
  • The flight boarded a little late but we still ended up pushing back a little early.  The winds were favorable and we arrived in Los Angeles a half hour early.  The flight was uneventful but they left the seat belt sign on almost the entire flight even though it felt relatively smooth.  I managed to sleep over half the flight so it went quickly for me.
  • Once on the ground at LAX we had a delay being towed in. They were short a person. Eventually someone showed up and got into position but it seemed like a long time as we sat there after a long flight.
  • I filled out the customs app and was ready to go with that. As we approached the area the security guards said to skip the app and us the normal queue it would be faster.  We followed his instructions and were through the process in a minute.  The app queue had a dozen or so people and seemed sluggish. The regular queue had no one and just kept moving. They were utilizing a facial recognition system and you just looked at the camera and were on your way once it matched you up.
  • Our bags were in the first group off, unlike in Tokyo where they were near the end so we were on our way to the shuttle quickly.
  • The shuttle to the parking structure was jammed.  Several rental car companies now use the economy parking shuttle and pick up customers at the bus stop at the parking structure. This has made the buses much more crowded.   I really cannot wait for the new automated people mover/train system. It has to be more efficient.
  • Exiting the structure today was slower than the last several trips.  The system did not read our plate correctly and we had to scan our receipt which took a few tries.
  • The drive home was relatively smooth for Los Angeles traffic to wrap up our trip clocking in at about 17.5 hours from the Sheraton in Tokyo to home.
