*** Note: A Bug's Land closed September 4, 2018 to make way for Avengers Campus ***
This is the first major addition to DCA since
its opening. A Bug's Land consists of the original Bountiful Valley
Farm and they added Flik's Fun Fair. But the backstory
is while they were digging for Tower of Terror they discovered this
world of Bugs and invited them to become part of the park.
The Geek's First Takes (10/4/02)
- Overview: I think the additions are well themed.
The rides themselves are nothing spectacular. Young kids will
really enjoy them, as will parents of the kids.
- Flik's Flyers: This is your basic spinning
ride. You go up, spin around a couple times, and come down 90
seconds later. With that said this was our favorite ride of the
new area, no idea why, just liked it.
- Francis' Ladybug Boogie: Basically spinning
bugs that travel in a figure eight. You spin based on weight distribution
and momentum, not actual spinning. The transition in the middle
of the figure 8 is a little rough.
- Heimlich's Chew Chew Train: A nice little train
ride. The narration is somewhat amusing, the scents are pretty
good. The main problem with this ride is it is way toooo short.
- Princess Dot Puddle Park: A two part fountain
area to play in. The best part here are the comfortable benches.
- Tuck and Roll's Drive 'Em Buggies: The slowest
bumper car ride I have ever been on. The talking cars are cool,
but its way too slow to be any fun.
- Bountiful Valley Farm (original thoughts from 2/3/01):
The farm sounded great on paper, and looked cool in the concept
art, but in reality we were really disappointed. Do not know what
would make it better for us, maybe some sort of attraction or
film or something talking about farming. The growing areas work
well as general area theming and help to make for a cool transition
to the area, but they do not work well as a main attraction. There
are some fun things for kids to do though, coloring area, water
play area, etc...
- Its
Tough to be a Bug! (original thoughts from 2/3/01): Basically
the same exact show as you see in Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom.
The theater entrances are themed dramatically different, but the
show itself is the same. The entrance to the theater at DCA has
you walk by a replica of Ant Island which is fairly cool. Once
in the waiting area for the show its very similar, seems much
more crowded here than at WDW.
