This trip included: Just me.My husband can only "do"
Disney about every 2 to 3 years. We went together in November
2001.
Hotel: Candy Cane Inn: When I go by myself I always stay
here.I love the beautiful grounds. The staff is very nice. The rooms
are comfortable and cozy. The room I had this time was upstairs from
the shuttle pick-up and faced out onto Harbor. It was definetly a
smaller room. When the bathroom door was opened it hit the edge of
the bed.I think if two people had that room they would complain, but
I liked it.
Transportation: Drove (approx. 430 miles)
Day 1:
The Trip:I left my house at 7:30am and
drove down I-5.I stopped at the bottom of the Grapevine to eat lunch
at some big truck stop area where they have a bunch of fast food
places inside of a big building.Made it to Anaheim by 2:30.Love
that LA traffic-not!Checked into my room, which was very quick. The
shuttle leaves every 1/2 hour,so I decided to take the 3:30 one
over to the parks.
DCA: I wanted "Soarin' Over California" to be my
first ride,so I went to DCA.I really felt welcomed when the person
taking my ticket didnt say ONE word to me!I did the single rider
line and only had to wait about 2 minutes to get on.Then we proceeded
to sit there for awhile. No one seemed to know why.A CM finally came
over the loud speaker and said they were having "technical
difficulties".A couple of minutes later a big cheer came up
from the left side.Apparently on the ride before, someone lost their
shoe. The CM had a big long pole and fished it out from the bottom
of the screen. The ride of course was great! After that I went to
see "Muppet 3-D".Its been a while since I've seen it,and
I kept thinking something was going to poke me,or squirt me ala
"Its Tough...".I finally saw "Millionaire".That
was so fun!The guy in the hot seat got to the million dollar question!I
guessed it right-but he missed it.I was in the top ten the whole
time and finally made it to the 3rd spot at the end.Since DCA closed
at 6 that day,and I planned on coming back on Wednesday,I decided
to go to DLand.
Disneyland: I rode Indy(single rider line)there seemed to
be some effects not working:No mice,no ball of fire.Pirates(no line)
and Mansion. The audio seemed to be much clearer and louder on both.I
ate dinner at the Plaza Inn.Rode Star Tours (yep, right after dinner!)Mr
Toad-the burning embers when you crash throught the fireplace wasnt
working.Went on Pinnocchio and the Matterhorn twice.(F-land side
wasnt open)I've forgotten how wild that ride is-too fun!I left at
7:45.The park closed at 8.So I walked back to the motel.While I
was walking a rat ran across the sidewalk right in front of me.Lovely.
Day 2:
Slept in a bit.Question-what is with LA morning
"news" shows.I saw KTLA's.
There is an older guy in a suit, and two girls wearing little "teen-ager"
tops on either side of him. They are supposedly doing the news. The
man is talking about some news story, and one of the girls is rubbing
her neck and rolling her head around, and says,"Hee hee,I wasnt
even listening!Hee hee!" GAG.End of rant.Got to D-Land at 10:30.Got
my free breakfast at Tomorrowland Terrace.Watched Buzz Lightyear
meet the kids.Too cute!Space Mt. was closed all morning.Went to
Innovations.I've never been to it.I thought it was fantastic.I spent
2 hours there.I sent my husband a couple of e-mails.The Create Your
Own Fireworks computer game was the coolest.I did it 6 times in
a row.I played the "Millionaire Jr." computer game 3 times.I
also did the GM Virtual Reality car "ride".Space Mountain
was open so I got a FP.Rode Roger Rabbit,Jungle Cruise,Indy(SR)Space
Mt.,Matterhorn(F-land side was open),Snow White,Star Tours,Rockets,Space
Mt.again.Ate lunch at Pizza Port.Saw the 100 Mickeys exhibit.I thought
they all looked alike!Did Mansion.I was going to ride the train
to Main St.but the line was HUGE.I walked to the front and took
the shuttle to the motel at 5.Jumped in the hot tub to revive my
legs and feet, and watched some tv.Got takeout chinese from across
the street.
Day 3:
Went to DCA.It opened at 10,I got there at 9:45.Went
in and walked over to Soarin' to wait. The CMs let us in early and
put us on the ride before 10.The poor guy sitting next to me had
misunderstood the seatbelt instructions and put his belt through
the loop used for small kids.He asked me how to unlock the belts, but
we were already locked in.He was very uncomfortable.I told him to
sit up really straight! It was 10 when we exited.I walked over to
Screamin' but it was down.Maliboomer was down.Stinger didnt open
til 11.That put a bad taste in my mouth.Mullholland WAS open so
I rode that.Fun but too short.Did the tortilla and sordough tour.Once
is enough.Saw California Dreams.I am such a cry baby!Rode Grizzly.Do
they use wetter water or what?My clothes were wet all day!Went to
Animation and Millionaire.Didnt do so great.I was DONE with DCA.Stood
in line for Peter Pan.There were a billion strollers.Because so
many rides were down, the park felt more crowded than it was.Matterhorn
had a big line all day.Went back and took 3 hour nap-ahhhh....Went
back at 6,rode Alice,Indy(walk on)Matterhorn,walked around.Closed
at 8 so decided to go to Downtown Disney to use game card at ESPN
Zone. Was going to take the monorail over but the line was GIGANTIC.Easier
to walk.Grabbed shuttle to motel.Used hot tub.Talked to others.One
said that Space Mt. was down all day.The people I talked to all
said they were disappointed in how many rides were down.Went back
to my room and packed for the trip home.
Day 4: Time to head home
Woke up,packed the car,got some continental
breakfast in the motel lobby and hit I-5 for the ride home.
I really enjoyed my trip.I was prepared for the "rehabs"
so no surprises.I was a bit disappointed with DCA.It opens at 10,yet
a lot of the rides dont open til 11.Blast wasnt performing. And the
two thrill rides werent running. But it was nice to know I didnt
have to stay-thank God for park hoppers.Crowds were light.Lots of
young ones and really young ones. With so many big rides down, the
lines were longer for other rides-Matterhorn and Space Mt. I did
Single Rider and Fast Pass for Indy,Space, and Soarin'. Everything
else was a walk on,or less than 10 minutes.Cant wait til next year!
