Trip Log:

Arrived at the Mickey and Friends parking structure just after lunch and was directed to the far corner on the Goofy level. Took an assortment of Star Wars construction pictures then boarded a tram for the parks. First park today Disney California Adventure. Hung out on Buena Vista Street waiting for some friends and working on a blog post then we made our way up Hollywood Blvd. Stopped by the Petes Dragon preview then did a circle taking Sunset Blvd to Bugs Land and back to Hollywood Land. They were doing the Frozen Reception so I bid them farewell and I headed for Grizzly Peak Airfield, around GRR and out to Paradise Pier. Strolled through the Wharf and Cars Land on my way back to Hollywood Land and the 3:00pm All-American College Band set. The 4:00pm Frozen show was cancelled so my friends rejoined me and we went across the Esplanade to Disneyland. Stopped by the Main Street Train Station to see the C.K. Holliday and visit with the engineers. Then strolled up Main Street USA and into Frontierland. Paid a visit to the Big Thunder Trail and then followed the Rivers of America to Critter Country for some more Star Wars pictures. Walked through the Hungry Bear and then back to New Orleans Square. Stopped by the Train Station here for a continuation of steam power 101 for the others (I had taken this course on a previous visit). Then walked through Adventureland and back to Main Street. The others continued on back to DCA to catch the 5:50pm Frozen and I enjoyed the Flag Retreat then walkled up Main Street, through the Castle and into Fantasyland for dinner at the Village Haus. After eating back to the Castle for the 6:15pm College Band set, then a quick walk around the Matterhorn before heading to Town Square to watch the end of the College Band set. Once they had concluded made a quick run over to DCA to see if Jammin on the Backlot has picked up at all, it had not, so returned to Disneyland for the 7:15pm College Band set. Then made my way out to the Small World Mall area for the 8:15 preparade by the College Band. Walked through Tomorrowland and then headed for Town Square to watch the end of the College Band pre-parade and find a spot for Paint the Night. Enjoyed the parade and then Disneyland Forever. After the fireworks headed for the tram, parking structure, car, and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 13,624 steps, 118 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello everyone,

Friday was a relaxing afternoon and evening as summer rolls into its last month at the Disneyland Resort. I spent it visiting with friends and enjoying some of the entertainment around the parks. The weather was more pleasant this week with the highs in the low 80s and cooling down to the 70s. The crowds were moderate to light with just the usual suspects drawing long waits.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • Star Wars construction continues to move along with more footers and foundations taking shape with walls going up on top of them. Dirt continues to be moved around and utility work seems to be nearing completion. Some work has begun on the land where one of the show buildings will be going. There were stakes and some i-beams being put into the ground. So not sure if that marks the start of actual Star Wars construction or not. Almost all the other work we have been seeing has been related to the re-routing of the river and train as well as the backstage support infrastructure.

  • Walked around Disney California Adventure and nothing too interesting jumped out at me. Stopped by the Pete's Dragon preview and it had more guests inside than last time and the A/C was turned way up, so it was freezing. Have to remember that for the next hot day. The friends I met were doing the Frozen lunch and show experience. They left for the reception/pre-show experience and showed up shortly after saying the 4:00pm performance they were to attend had been cancelled and they had to try back for the 5:50pm. On twitter someone told me that the 1st show stopped midway and did not restart. So seems they are continuing to encounter technical issues with the show. The 5:50pm show did run and they said it only had a couple minor hiccups. Keep that in mind if you really want to see Frozen during your trip to try and get to an early show on your first day to allow for later chances to catch it if something arises.

  • While we were roaming around Hollywood Land there was no wait for Olaf and a short one for the Zootopia couple. The Marvel characters had a long wait. Not sure if it is because they are listed in the guide and in a more prominent location or just the popularity of Captain America and Spider-Man.

  • I walked through the Jammin on the Backlot event just before 7pm and it was as lightly attended as the first time I did weeks ago. Again the couple kids and their families that were there seemed to be enjoying themselves but a majority of people just walked through/by. Some were hanging out on the benches but seemed to me they were more interested in a place to sit than what was going on. This week one bar was closed and the other was not busy at all. So seems the family DJ is not bringing in the crowds nor sales. That seems like it could have been predicted.

  • Last DCA note before moving on to Disneyland. This past week Disney confirmed that World of Color - Celebrate! will be ending on Labor Day and the classic World of Color show will be returning for the Fall. Curious if there will be any tweaks to it to use any of the new technology that was added for Celebrate?

  • At Disneyland spent some time visiting both Main Street Station and New Orleans Square Station of the Disneyland Railroad with some friends who had not experienced the static trains yet. We took pictures, spoke with the cast members and learned about steam propulsion. All and all it was an entertaining and educational visit. If you have not had a chance to do so I highly recommend it. It is a rare chance to get inside and close to the trains. The C.K. Holliday looks brand new since its recent refurbishment too. I would really like to see one of the stations house something about what is coming. Some concept art and a look into the new route would be a great addition to the offerings.

  • There is only one week left to catch the 2016 All-American College Band. They will wrap up their summer program on Friday the 12th. So if you have been putting off seeing them or want to experience one last concert plan accordingly.

  • Disneyland announced that Live Bands will be returning to the Tomorrowland Terrace stage starting Saturday. They will perform Fri-Sat for a limited time (that was not defined but I would assume until Halloween parties take over Friday nights).

  • Also announced this past week is that Paint the Night and Disneyland Forever will both end their runs on Labor Day. Fantasy in the Sky will be returning on weekends. No announcement if Paint the Night will go to seasonal operation or if it is being shipped elsewhere (there are rumors flying around for both scenarios). So time will tell what happens.
