Upon entering the Disneyland Resort you are now greeted with several signs saying that your bags will be inspected. This one is at the bottom of the M&F escalators.
There are several more out front of the turnstyles. Also notice a security person at each open gate.
The same is true over at DCA.

All United States flags are lowered to half mast.
There are also many more flags and banners up around the park now.

The nightly Flag Retreat has taken on a whole new meaning now and is heavily attended by Cast Members. I think they really need to put it on the official schedule for guests and bring back the live band...
The other great thing about the flag retreat was the applause and cheers throughout. It was great to see. Usually everyone pauses for the National Anthem and then just goes on their way. Friday everyone stopped and watched the entire ceremony.

Over at DCA the same type of reception greated the finale float from DEP.
Everyone stood and cheered wildly as it went by.

Crowds at both parks were very light. It seemed like a rainy day crowd...
DCA appeared to be its normal crowd size (meaning empty).
Even the newly opened Millionaire attraction could not draw a lot of people.

The roof work backstage appears to be done.
In the park construction walls have appeared around several trees. This one is near the castle forecourt area.
Here is the one on the other side.

Work continues on the Frontierland building facade.
The trees in Adventureland are also surrounded.
  • Page Number: 9
We tried to get high enough to peek in, but we could not tell anything except the planters look like they are being replaced.
Fantasmic is also down for Rehab and the front part of Tom Sawyer Island is closed, the Fort area and the rest of the island are open though.
The walkway through Fantasyland is closed off too. Hopefully they are redoing the pavement. It really needs it and it would be great to get the themed pavement like the other lands of the park have gotten in recent years.

Here is a close-up of the sign.
Alice and the Tea Cups are both behind the walls.
The Matterhorn is also down again for rehab.
  • Page Number: 11
The trees out by the Fantasyland Theater too.
The Star Tours FastPass is getting a paint job it looks like.
  • Page Number: 12
The large Hungry Bear is gone... hope he comes back...
Speaking of the Bears, all the signs are still up for them.
  • Page Number: 13
Found this interesting... this was out front of the Bears. Also interesting is on Disneyland.com they list the Bears as under Rehab. I checked till mid 2002 and they were still listed as rehab. Maybe there is still hope, but it does not sound like it...
The exit is all boarded up and the sign is down.
The entrance is still there with its signs, but there are now walls in front of it.

Here is a good shot of the fall decorations that are starting to appear in the park.
The new McFry place was closed again... if it is always closed why not keep the old food??
The other McFry cart was closed also.

Just really liked how this picture came out and had to share it.
There were quite a few characters out in both parks for guests to interact with.
It was great because you did not have to fend off an army of people and squeeze in for a quick photo.

The Haunted Mansion is going to be redecorated for the Holidays and become the Nightmare Before Christmas.
  • Page Number: 17
A lot of work has been done to the Mansions exterior so far.
It was weird to see the windows open.
  • Page Number: 18
The Mansion is supposed to reopen the first week of October. (the fourth I believe)
Here is the sign in the daytime.
  • Page Number: 19
Taking a peek over the fence you can see the equipment waiting for the night shift.
    More decorations to unpack.
  • Page Number: 20
The reports online of GRR not spinning anymore on the last drop are correct. No idea why though.
The walkway out front of GRR is being worked on again.
  • Page Number: 21
It looks like the area where the path meets the new extension is torn up.
There were also fences up in the Pier section.
  • Page Number: 22
Finally a tree we can look in on...
    Not much to see though.
Looks like a new sign for the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is coming soon.
  • Page Number: 23
This is at the entrance to the vineyard.
Looks like a new sign is coming here too.
  • Page Number: 24
Downtown Disney had a light crowd too. We did see several people with candles though (CMs as well as guests).
Saw this little guy in the Dept. 56 store and thought it was a great way to end...
