Trip Log:

Started off this comfortable summer afternoon heading into DCA. Walked through the narrow wall corridor, Condor Flats, around GRR, and out to the Pier. Passed Screamin and Toy Story on my way to the Fun Wheel. It was about a 20 minute wait so decided to wait, by the time I exited it was close to double that. After my spin walked through the Paradise Gardens area and then past Mermaid. Decided to backtrack and head for the entrance and over to Disneyland. Strolled down Main Street USA and circled the hub before heading into Tomorrowland. Noticed there were two Monorails running so decided to take advantage of that while I could. Took the Monorail to Downtown Disney then made a pass through the Disneyland Hotel to check out its progress. Decided to walk back to the parks through Downtown Disney and back to DCA. Spent some time in Greetings from California since it only has a few weeks left then walked down the Backlot, stopping at Off the Page and the Animation Building. Continued on through Bugs Land and up to the Blue Sky Cellar patio. Took my fill of Cars Land shots and did a quick pass through the Cellar to see if there was anything new (there was not) before walking through the Wharf and then over to Condor Flats for dinner at Taste Pilots. After dinner did another pass through Greetings before exiting the park and heading back to Disneyland for the Flag Retreat. Watched the ceremony then wandered down Main Street and into Adventureland. Walked up the Pirates bridge and then made a u-turn and headed for Frontierland and the Golden Horseshoe to watch the Billies. After the show it was back to Main Street to catch all three stops of the College Band Pre-parade. Then continued my tour of the park walking through Frontierland and around the Big Thunder Trail into Fantasyland and on to Toontown. Made the loop of Toontown and worked my way back through the waiting parade crowd. Decided to stop and watch some of the parade since it was coming and I had a few minutes before the 7pm Elvis set in Tomorrowland. Watched most of the parade then walked around the Matterhorn and into Tomorrowland for Elvis. Then I bounced over to Plaza Gardens for some of the 7:15 College Band set then back to Tomorrowland for the 7:45 Elvis and back to Plaza Gardens for the 8:00 College Band. After their set walked through the Castle and Fantasyland on my way to Small World for the 8:45 Magic, Memories, and You. Strolled back through Fantasyland and around the Big Thunder Trail. Arrived near the Big Thunder exit as Fantasmic was starting so found an open spot along the rail to watch the show from the very skewed(almost behind) angle. After Fantasmic made my way to Main Street and found a spot for Magical before heading for the tram, car, and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 15,907 steps, 138 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

Friday was a regular summer day at the parks, crowd wise. From a weather stand point it was really mild, topping out at about 80 and cooling down to the 60s by the time Magical started. The wait times were about normal for this time of year, but to be honest I did not really pay that much attention to them. The two attractions (yeah I know at the park for 9 hours and only went on two attractions, guess three if you count the quick walk through the Blue Sky Cellar) consisted of the Monorail which had a one train wait since there were two running this was minimal, and the Fun Wheel which took a good 20-25 minutes. The rest of the day I was enjoying the entertainment or just roaming around.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • As you saw in the pictures construction is starting to ramp up for Buena Vista Street. Because of this the walkways to get in and out of the park are quite narrow. Even during the relatively light afternoon hours the walkways felt crowded. I did not have a chance to visit during the evening to see what the World of Color crowd did to this.

  • It appeared that the train engine has been removed and all that remains are the exterior facades that were created to look like the rail cars. The engine is heading to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum (click here for a posting on their site about it). Guessing the demo work on the cars will be starting soon.

  • Took a quick stroll through the Blue Sky Cellar to see if there was anything updated, there was not. I see on the Disneyland calendar that it is slated to down in September, so guessing that is when Cars Land and Buena Vista Street will take over.

  • I was hoping to catch the Soundsational drum line performers doing a brief show out in the park Friday. I talked to a guest relations CM and she informed me that their show is at noon near Its a Small World. So I had missed it for the day. This seems like quite a long time prior to the parade to have them out.. in case you were curious what I am talking about our friends over at mouseinfo posted a video of the full show.

  • There seemed to be quite a few cast members counting guests in attendance at the various shows throughout the day. It seemed that ever show I stopped by there were a couple CMs with counters and clip boards. Guess it is that time of year where they evaluate how everything is doing. Either that or are there changes coming to the offerings?

  • The All American College band is on its last week of park performances. They wrap up their summer this upcoming Friday. So if you are in the park this week stop by and catch one of their sets. They are a fun group and put on a great show.

  • While watching the Billies I overheard a couple of CMs talking about the balcony. The one said they heard that it was closed off due to an issue with the railing heights. This theory seemed plausible to me based off what I have read/heard about the reason they are no longer using the first several rows in the Hyperion. Also it explains why it appears no work is going on but it is still closed. Has anyone heard/seen anything on this?

  • I have not stopped to watch the Magic, the Memories, and You in quite a while so I decided to Friday evening. I was surprised that let me stay up close to Small World, the past few times I have been asked to move by CMs. The perspective was ok, but still the best view seemed to be about mid-way down the Small World Mall area. There were no fireworks during the finale, has this become the norm or did something happen on Friday?

  • I wanted to thank all those that participated in our contest with the Disney Store for a Vinylmation figure from the new Robots line and we would like to congratulate Chris who had the closest guess to the number of photos in our Tomorrowland photo archive.
