Trip Log:

Started off this perfect spring afternoon with a crummy parking spot in the far corner of the garage (literally 10 cars from the furthest point in the last row). Hiked to the trams, and rode to Downtown Disney. First stop DCA to check out the construction. Walked down the parade route, stopped by the Blue Sky Cellar then continued on to the Bay Area. Walked by the Little Mermaid work and over to GRR to check out the World of Color return time, already on the second show so skipped it. Doubled back to get some more Mermaid shots then walked around the Pier by the Meet and Greets, Screamin, and Toy Story to get to the Fun Wheel. When for a spin and then walked through the new park and up to the Swings platform for some dining area shots. Continued on through the wall corridor and around by the Jumpin Jellyfish and the Zephyr. Made my way through Paradise Park and the Wharf. Stopped by the Blue Sky Cellar area again and then strolled through Bugsland and the Backlot as I headed for Disneyland. Wandered along Main Street USA and verred into Adventureland, over the Pirates bridge, through New Orleans Square and out to Critter Country. Circled the dead end then walked along the Rivers of America. The Mark Twain was coming into port so hopped on for a voyage up the Rivers of America. Once back on land continued on up the Big Thunder Trail and through Fantasyland. Walked by the Tea Cups, Matterhorn, and Pixie Hollow on my way to Tomorrowland to check out the Star Tours progress. Milled around for a bit then headed for the Monorail. Unfortunately it was closed so decided to hike out toward the hotels, but along the way got sidetracked by a film crew on Main Street. Hung around to see what they were filming and it turned out to be the Magic Music days bands. Three came down the street. It was just about 4:30 at this point so found a spot for the Flag Retreat then decided it was time for some food so walked back up Main Street, through the Castle, and to the Village Haus for dinner. After dinner went to see if the Monorail was operating again, there was a long line but no trains in sight so decided to head out of the park and hike through Downtown Disney and out to the Disneyland Hotel for some pictures (along the way saw the DD Monorail station was closed so it was down again/still). After my fill of pictures walked over to the Grand CA and then back through Downtown Disney and into DCA. Walked through Condor Flats and around GRR (still had Fastpasses for the second World of Color) and out to the Pier. Strolled by Mermaid and down toward the Jellyfish before turning around and walked back down the parade route and headed for Disneyland and the 7:00pm Scot Bruce/Elvis set in Tomorrowland. Around 7:30 it was back to DCA to catch the opening of ElecTRONica on the Backlot. Stopped by Flynns then walked through the Backlot and out to the Wharf. Decided to make another lap of the Pier in an attempt to get some Mermaid shots and a couple of the new park at night. Finished the loop just as the 9pm World of Color was kicking off. Opted to go back through the Blue Sky Cellar and then out to Downtown Disney. Walked through World of Disney and out toward ESPN while the fireworks were going on. Then decided to walk back to the garage, car, and head for home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 23,467 steps, 206 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

What better way to celebrate tax day (yeah I know they were not due till Monday but the 15th is still tax day in my head) than to spend a great afternoon/evening at the Disneyland Resort. The weather was picture perfect and the crowds were on the light side. I was expecting it to be worse than the last visit since we are closer to Easter and many local school districts are going on spring break, maybe everyone was home doing their taxes or just not wanting to venture out with gas prices where they are. The wait times were about average for a Friday, maybe even on the light side of average given the great weather. For example I waited only about 10 minutes for the Fun Wheel. Screamin was about the same. Even Soarin had a posted time under 30 minutes a couple of the times I walked by. Over at Disneyland the same story with just about everything under 30 minutes most of the afternoon. I was surprised to see Fastpasses for the 10:15 World of Color still available after 6:00pm.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • I keep telling myself to try the Toy Story parking lot but then the habit of parking in the Mickey and Friends garage kicks in and I found myself almost as far as you can get from the escalators again. Everyone that I have talked to has said the surface lot is a lot easier, but to me exiting the garage and taking the over pass onto the freeway is very simple to head North and home. Maybe someday I will give it a shot, till then I will just gripe about my bad luck.

  • As you saw in the pictures the construction at DCA is moving along at a fast clip with the entrance and Carthay theater hitting their stride while the Little Mermaid is on the final details phase. The dining area seems to be behind to me, no doubt because of all the rain we had, but still a solid month to go till opening. Disney had a press release over the weekend listing the Summer openings and it says the Sky School will open on June 3rd. Click here to read the release.

  • I heard some of the Disney Channel Rocks show while taking pictures for of the Mermaid building. Wonder if they are going to switch out any of the songs and push the new Disney Channel film that premiered last week. The show had a very small audience which seems to be the norm. Also it looked like they have cut back on some of the staging. I did not see the light rigs that were out in the audience/planters. Also did not notice the lifts. And no World of Color fountains used either, but to be fair on this count they were working on that platform this afternoon.

  • Not much to report from Disneyland. Seemed like a normal spring afternoon. The park seemed a little on the relaxed side to me, or maybe it was just me. I even opted to go for a ride on the Mark Twain and as you saw in the one picture at one point about half way around I had the entire rail to myself which felt odd once I noticed it.

  • I caught the kick off of ElecTRONica. I was curious how it worked at mid block. It was ok, but I thought entering the Backlot right after the countdown was more dramatic. Also kind of interesting I showed up a couple minutes before show time and as you entered the Backlot CMs were passing out flyers and Fastpasses for arcade tokens. I thought this made sense earlier in the day to get guests to come back but giving it to those already heading down the street a few minutes before show time seemed odd. Speaking of odd when the show ended and you were supposed to head back toward the DJ area everyone just kind of paused to see if there would be more show. Kind of an awkward moment. ElecTRONica still seems to be drawing a decent crowd.

  • Decided to take a walk around the Pier to check out the new Park at Night and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. Guess some of it was because of how peaceful it was without Screamin Running. I think it could use some more benches though.

  • Was able to get some ok shots into the Mermaid building since they had the lights on, but had to do it from across the Bay thanks to World of Color having the near side blocked off. The lobby area looked fairly impressive from that vantage point.
