Trip Log:

We arrived at the parks a bit later than the last few weeks and were parked in about the same spot on the 5th floor, so a good sign for the crowds. Took the tram to the park and headed for DCA. Stopped by the Blue Sky Cellar and then walked through the Wharf on my way out to the Pier. Hiked out to the Fun Wheel and went for a spin (Toy Story was down). Then finished the loop of the Pier and walked by GRR and out to the Grand Californian. Grabbed my pictures and headed for Disneyland. Strolled down Main Street and verred into Tomorrowland. Grabbed a Fastpass for Buzz and then walked around the Matterhorn and into Fantasyland. Strolled through Fantasyland and around the Big Thunder Trail to Frontierland. It was nearing 4:00pm so headed into catch the Billy Hill show. After the show walked through Frontierland and back out to Main Street USA. Wandered down the street and found a spot for the 4:45 Flag Retreat. After the retreat headed up to the Castle for the 5:30 College Band set and then time for dinner. Some grabbed Fastfood from the Stage Door Cafe, then we met at the Plaza Inn. After dinner we headed for Adventureland and a ride on the Jungle Cruise then doubled back to Tomorrowland to catch some of the Tomorrowland Terrace Band (the Bolts) before heading down Main Street for the 7:30 College Band set. Once their final set of the day was over we decided to use our Buzz Fastpasses and then catch the Pixie Hollow enchantment show. After that we split up and I headed for NOS by way of Frontierland to go for a ride on the Haunted Mansion. I was exiting just as Fantasmic was starting so I watched some of the show before heading back to Main Street to rejoin my group and watch Magical. After the show headed for the trams, car, and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 13,348 steps, 119 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello all,

The summer season is in the home stretch at the Disneyland Resort, only a few more weeks. The crowds at the park seemed relatively light considering the mild weather. We arrived an hour or so later than usual and ended up with a slightly closer parking spot than the last few trips. The lines in the parks were not bad with most e-tickets well under an hour most of the afternoon.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • We stopped by the Blue Sky Cellar as one member of our group this trip had not seen the new display. I was surprised by the number of guests inside as well as the number of CMs visiting from other areas still, it was great to see.

  • When we walked by Toy Story Midway Mania it was down. We overheard a CM telling someone that the attraction had been down most (it may have been all) day. It did open while we were on the Fun Wheel but by the time we made it make the line had already gone to the 40 minute mark so we skipped it this trip.

  • Speaking of the Fun Wheel the wait for the non-swinging cars was a little over one load cycle (maybe 10-15 minutes) when we showed up. Once we exited it had backed up quite a ways up the ramp and was over 30 minutes.

  • The 2009 All American College Band has one week left. Friday was slightly different since the TA for the summer was given the honor of directing the last two sets of the day. He did a great job and it was fun to watch him become more comfortable as the evening went on.

  • I stopped by the Haunted Mansion to celebrate its 40th anniversary since I would not be in the park during the real anniversary (which I have seen listed as both the 9th and 12th on various sites.. so not 100% sure but we know it was this week 40 years ago it open..

  • Magical had a healthy crowd but not jammed. There seemed to be a fair number of latecomers who were rather rude (or I was just lucky) as they would come and stand in front of you, which by itself is annoying considering it was not that crowded, but then they go and put a child on their shoulders so you have absolutely no view at all. I understand wanting your child to see and have no problem with that but seems you could find an open space or stand near someone else or a tall person or something to make less of an impact on others.

  • Interesting Web Notes:
In this section of the Geekspeaks column I will include links, notes, and rumors I find/stumble across/or have been informed of:

    • A new trailer for Walt & El Grupo is out. Click Here (to learn more about this film click here for the press release)

    • The series of preview Galleries from the Disney Family Museum continued this week with information and images from the 4th Gallery looking at Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as the studio moved to feature length films. Click here for information on this gallery as well as the others.

    • The week marks the end of the 46th Annual Disneyland Resort Cast Member canoe races around the Rivers of America. The final races are Wednesday and Thursday. This Disneyland tradition entails teams from across the Disney corporation competing in three categories (mens, womens, and mixed) to make it around the Rivers of America (the course is approximately 1,410 feet).

    • Up will be released on a single disc DVD and a 4-disc Blu Ray set on November 10th
