Trip Log:

Started off this picture perfect winter day walking over to Downtown Disney after parking. I strolled through DD and into the Grand Californian to take some pictures of the DVC work. Then back out to Downtown Disney and over to the parks. Waited for others in the Esplanade and then we headed into DCA. Walked through the Wharf area, stopping at the Tortilla tour and then out to the Pier. Walked around taking some pictures and ended up at Toy Story. The standby line was about 30 minutes so we used the single rider and then finished the loop of the Pier walking past the Orange Stinger and we stopped for a ride on the Zephyr. Continued on to the Bay Area and walked by the walls up for the new restrooms and then walked around GRR and into Condor Flats. Stopped to see Lightening and Mater before heading over to Disneyland to grab a corn dog for lunch. After lunch headed for Tomorrowland. Grabbed Fastpasses for Autopia and then went on Buzz since it was only a 10-15 minute wait. Walked through Adventureland and then into NOS. Strolled along the Rivers of America and out to Critter Country. Went for a ride on Pooh and then headed back around the Riveer and the Big Thunder trail on our way to Fantasyland. Went for a ride on the Carrousel and then the Tea Cups since neither had a wait really. Continued on around the Matterhorn and back to Tomorrowland to use our Autopia Fastpasses. We headed back to the hub and walked through the Castle and doubled back to Main Street. Caught the Straw Hatters as we were exiting the park to return to DCA. Walked down the Backlot and stopped by the Animation Building to see what was going on. Went through the workshop area and then back out to the street and over to Playhouse Disney to catch the last show of the day. After Playhouse Disney we returned to Disneyland and went for dinner at the River Belle Terrace. I returned to DCA for some night shots, first stopping by the Blue Sky Cellar to see if there was anything new, there was not, then continuing on to the Pier. Saw there was no real wait in the single rider line, so went for another spin on Toy Story. Then I wrapped up the loop of the Pier, walked through the Bay Area, around GRR and back out to Disneyland. Strolled down Main Street and verred off to Tomorrowland to catch Elvis at the Tomorrowland Terrace at 7:00pm. After the set walked out to Small World and Toontown then circled back to watch the 7:45 set in Tomorrowland. Then over to Plaza Gardens to watch some of the 8:00pm Stompy Jones set. Then headed out to NOS to watch Fantasmic. Noticed that there was no line for Pirates so walked on that while waiting. Got out and walked around to find a spot for the show, just as the show was starting. After Fantasmic walked quickly over to Main Street to catch Remember (which was delayed). After the show headed for the tram, car, and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Actual Walking Time: 2:50:09
* 71 steps per minute average
* 1.94 mph average

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello all,

Wow two great Saturdays in the month of January at the Disneyland Resort, hard to beat the great weather, mild crowds, and Disneyland! Overall the crowds were less than a few weeks ago, due to it not being a holiday weekend or a major convention in town. The waits for most major attractions were well under an hour, most in the 30-40 minute range.

Trip logs and mileage reports are in the Park Miles section.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • Parking was much smoother this week due to the smaller crowds, but the trams still seemed backed up most of the day with waits testing our patience so several of the people I spoke with ended up walking one or both directions.

  • Toy Story Midway Mania seemed to have the longest line in DCA for most of the day. Each time we went by or heard people talking it was between 30-40 minutes. I managed to get on a couple times using the single rider line and they are still asking people if its ok for a single rider to join them, so far I have only seen one or two say no and I think it was because they did not understand the question, they seemed confused.

  • As you saw in the pictorial update the walls on Main Street have moved slightly as the paving project is on going. If the plan is to re pave everything this off season they seem to be moving rather slowly and not in a pattern that makes sense.. they did the east side of the hub, have the parade gate blocked off now and have a portion of the street in the middle blocked off half way. Wonder how much will get done before the Spring break crowds come. Also saw some more access ramps, or what I am assuming will be access ramps going in... hopefully this is not the start of the removal of all curbs in the hub and many in the Town Square area like WDW has. I really thought that made the area look odd and I think the curbs are great to sit on of course!

  • I finally caught the current (new) version of the Playhouse Disney show, seemed my schedule and theirs never lined up (also we had a toddler with us so it was a perfect excuse). The show was pretty much identical to WDWs and the kids in the audience seemed to really enjoy the show and the effects (falling leaves, lights, etc...).

  • As we walked around Disneyland we saw a group of a handful or so military (I believe Army) people being shown around. Looked to be some sort of outreach as they were taken to many of the shows and even allowed to play around a bit with some lighting at Tomorrowland Terrace during the Elvis set. It looked like a great program, anyone know anything about this?

  • I took in a couple sets of Scot Bruce (Elvis) at the Tomorrowland Terrace and he had a healthy crowd each time. Great to see entertainment continuing in the off season.

  • Remember started late, with no explanation, it appeared not to be weather related as the test balloon seemed ok. Also no Tinkerbell again, was she given some time off since the show is only running on Saturday nights I believe.
