Trip Log:

Started off this picture perfect Southern California day heading for Disneyland. Wandered down Main Street and around the hub on my way to Tomorrowland to grab a Fastpass for Buzz. Walked by the never ending Nemo line and the Matterhorn and out to Small World Holiday. Went for one last cruise before the attraction goes down in a couple weeks until November then out to Toontown to see what was happening. Circled back through Fantasyland and around the Big Thunder Ranch. Continued on along the Rivers of America. Saw Pirates was a walk on so went for a ride. Once back in NOS, headed for Adventureland and then over to DCA. Grabbed a Fastpass for Soarin and continued on to the Bay Area and out to the Pier. Walked to the right and around to the Sun Wheel to get Toy Story Mania pictures. Since the walkway was blocked off due to the work had to walk all the way back and then around to the left to get shots from near Screamin. Walked back to the Wharf area and through the Farm. Ended up in Condor Flats and Taste Pilots Grill for lunch. After lunch used my Soarin fastpass then stopped by the Grand Californian and then walked through Downtown Disney. Noticed a long line at the Monorail station so walked back through Downtown Disney and to Disneyland. Spent some time in Town Square, and visited the Art of Disney display at the exit to the Opera House. Then headed down Main Street and around the castle. Stopped by the Golden Horseshoe to catch Billy Hill and then walked along the Rivers of America and out to Critter Country. Turned around and walked back past the Haunted Mansion and hopped on the Train to Tomorrowland. Stopped by Innoventions and then used a Fastpass to ride Buzz. Took a look into Frontierland to catch the Mark Twain and just missed it so off to Main Street to watch the Flag Retreat. After the retreat grabbed a corn dog at the end of Main Street then circled through Frontierland and Adventure to see about catching the Jungle Cruise or the Mark Twain, neither was available so headed over to DCA. Walked out to the Pier. Wandered back to the entrance and down the backlot. Stopped by the Animation building and then headed for the entrance. Caught a few minutes of the High School Musical show and then left for the tram and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Actual Walking Time: 2:55:54
* 72 steps per minute average
* 2.00 mph average

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello everyone,

Happy New Year... Sunday was an unexpected trip to the Disneyland Resort. I had planned on going Saturday but do to the Lazygeek and his family coming down with flu we canceled that but with the great weather I decided to go Sunday anyways. The weather was picture perfect, mid to low 70s during the day. The parks were a little more crowded than I had anticipated but still what I would consider normal for an off season weekend with great weather. Most attraction wait times peaked in the late morning/mid afternoon near an hour for the big ones and then the crowds began to dwindle as the day went on.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • I thought we were going to be in for a long day, as we rounded the bend to approach the parking garage all lanes came to a stop. The backup was solid, all lanes, all the way to the tollbooths. It seemed everyone was showing up at the same time. The line for the trams was not bad and neither were the lines to get into the parks.

  • It was nice to see some artwork from the Gallery back on display, although in a very awkward space. The Art of Disneyland is temporarily being housed in the exit hallway for the Opera house. I have read on several sizes its going to be moving into the Plaza Pavilion after the AP center closes there and a rehab.

  • I caught a Billy Hill show in the late afternoon and it was great as usual. The guys who were performing I think do a much better job (or at least more variety in their show) than the ones who are usually there on Fridays when I go, I do enjoy seeing them too, but the Sunday group is a step above in my book.

  • I stopped by Innoventions to see if there were any visible signs of progress, but there were not. Actually more things were closed this time with the Project Tomorrowland area walled off again. Wonder if the second round of kiosks are being installed or something else. I talked to a cast member and asked if an estimated opening date was set for the Microsoft displays on the first floor and they said last they heard was late spring/early summer but nothing definite. They also shared that there has not been much visible progress down there and that it seems to be moving slowly.

  • California Adventure was quiet as usual most of the day with the crowds fairly light. In the evening I spotted Goofy and Pluto hanging out in the Animation building and they were just goofying around and interacting with people. I bet they really enjoy this more than some of the mob scenes that occur over at Disneyland on Main Street. I know from a guest perspective its much nicer.

  • As you saw in the pictorial update the work on Toy Story Mania is moving along and currently the walkway is blocked off. They did a good job of marking this in the guidemaps and with signage around the parks. I thought the lines at both Screamin and the Sun Wheel were a little on the short side, but not sure if that is normal for a Sunday around noontime. The Sun Wheel was a near walk on for the swinging cars and the non-swinging cars had no one in line when we were there.
