Trip Log:

Started off this overcast day heading for Disneyland just as the sun was finally burning through the June gloom (which decided to arrive in May this year). Wandered down Main Street and around the hub. Walked past the Matterhorn and out to the sub Lagoon to see what was going on. They were cycling three subs through the attraction so I hung out watching for a while then continued on around the Matterhorn and into Fantasyland. Continued on around the Big Thunder trail and along the Rivers of America taking pictures of Tom Sawyer Island and Pirates Premiere setup. Cut through the Pirates line and circled around and over the bridge to continue behind the bleechers and out toward Critter Country. Made the U-turn by Haunted Mansion and headed back with the crowd through NOS and into Adventureland. Headed back to Tomorrowland and grabbed a Fastpass for Buzz then stopped by the Tomorrow Landing gift shop before taking some more Sub shots. Walked back past the Matterhorn and out to Small World. There was no line so went for a ride. As I was getting off I noticed the 3:30 parade was just starting and it was 3:45 and Mickey and Minnie were in front, which seemed odd. So I headed for Main Street to get in front of the parade so I could see what was going on. I had to cut through Fantasyland and the castle to get in front of it. Watched the parade go by from near the castle and then headed over to Frontierland for some more pictures. Doubled back to Main Street and headed down for the Flag Retreat. After the retreat it was time to head over to California Adventure. Walked into Condor Flats and grabbed a Fastpass for Soarin and then dinner at Taste Pilots Grill. After dinner strolled by GRR and through the Bay Area out to the Pier. Took a bunch of Toy Story Mania shots from the ground then from the Sun Wheel before continuing on around the Pier. Caught the end of Block Party Bash as they pulled backstage (I had never caught the end of the parade and that was a nice touch). After finishing the loop walked through the Wharf and Farm area on my way back to the parks entrance. Detoured down the backlot for a quick circle before heading back to Disneyland. Walked out to Tomorrowland and watched them work on the subs a bit (there were several Imagineers directing divers where to place things) then cut through Fantasyland and the Big Thunder trail again to get more Pirates shots. Circled around the Rivers of America and walked through Critter Country. Then back to Haunted Mansion where I went for a ride. After the HM it was back around NOS and into Adventureland. Noticed the walls on Indy were down so walked into the queue a bit for some pictures then headed back over to Tomorrowland. As I was waiting for the sun to set decided to see what was going on in Innoventions for a couple minutes. Then back to the sub lagoon for some night shots. Then cut through Fantasyland and around the Big Thunder trail again on my way to get some Pirates night shots (they were testing the projectors so it was worth it). Circled the area taking pictures and then headed back to Main Street. It was approaching 9pm so decided to take the tram back to the garage (which of course took no time at all since I Was not in a hurry) and then I decided to call it an early evening and head home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Actual Walking Time: 3:28:01
* 101 steps per minute average
* 2.88 mph average

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello all,

Friday was a leisurely day at the Disneyland Resort for me. I had nothing on the agenda except to get some pictures of the Sub Lagoon and of the Pirates Premiere set up. The crowds at the park were mild, they felt slightly heavier than last week but still nothing too bad and with some good timing and luck you could get on most attractions without a major wait. The longest line I saw at Disneyland was Splash Mountain which was hovering around 50 minutes (Space Mountain was under 45 most of the time). Over at DCA the crowd was light too. Today was really a day of finishing touches around the park with the Pirates event Saturday (one day away), the opening of Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island (yep that's the official name) only a week away, the 25th and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage opening in 25 days (June 11th).

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • It was great to walk around the corner from the Matterhorn and look across the sub lagoon again and see life in it. As you saw in the pictures they were cycling three subs on Friday afternoon. The pacing was a bit interesting (I am assuming they were running them at the show pacing). They start off at a fast speed then as they near the turn to head for the caves they slow down quite a bit. The sea gulls were moving around all day, but the sound was on only in the evening. It was also a bit odd to see the subs going by and not hear or smell them.. they are now using electric motors, the diesel ones are gone so they are nearly silent (a little hum/fan can be heard when they go by, my guess it is the ventilation system).

  • As I stood there looking at the lagoon it was great to listen to the conversations near by. It seems everyone had a sub story and the excitement that was generated by just seeing them running again really surprised me. Seems they really are a fan favorite. Every time I walked by the lagoon the railings were fairly full with people just hanging out and watching. One comment I heard several times was people referring to the sea gulls as pelicans, seems either the science education is really lacking or people are just not that familiar with the movie.

  • The stage for this years premiere of Pirates III looked bigger and more elaborate than what was built for the second film (I did not make it down to the park for the first one so not sure what that looked like). The two bridges and large extension onto the island made for quite a bit of space and the movie props that were brought in were great to see. Wonder if any will stick around for an exhibit... also it was hard to tell what were props for the premiere and what were props for the stunt show/island makeover.

  • Over at DCA the Food and Wine Weekends continue, again we did not see big crowds, but I am told the weekend days are heavier.

  • The Toy Story Mania building is really taking shape and it promises to really change the look of the Pier. Also note for those who did not know the Midway games are slated to close June 20th and its unknown when or if they will be back and if they are what form they will be in.

  • Caught the end of Block Party Bash as it was heading backstage and the photo opp and dance number that was performed as the parade paused by the gate was a nice ending to the parade. I had not heard of that or seen it before.. a nice Disney touch.
