Trip Log:

Started off this great afternoon heading for DCA. Wandered down the backlot to see what was going on then walked over to Condor Flats to grab a Fastpass for Soarin. Continued on around GRR and through the Bay area on my way to the Pier. Took a couple Toy Story Mania shots then hopped on the Sun Wheel for more. Finished the loop of the Pier by walking past the Orange Stinger and back to the Bay Area. Cut through the Farm area and then headed over to Disneyland. Walked down Main Street and around the hub. Headed over to Tomorrowland to grab a Buzz Fastpass then circled the Matterhorn and headed for Fantasyland. Looked around Fantasyland and walked along the Big Thunder trail to the Rivers of America. Grabbed a snack at the Stage Door Cafe (eating in the Golden Horseshoe) then continued on along the river and out to Critter Country. Turned around and walked back through NOS and Adventureland to Main Street. Walked back to Tomorrowland and up to the Monorail Platform for some pictures. Walked past the Matterhorn and back to Main Street. Headed across the way to DCA and down the Backlot again. I was lucky and caught the last 5 minutes or so of the Muppet Mobile Lab and then cut back through the entrance plaza to check out Soarin. The return line was out the door so skipped that and headed back down the Backlot. Stopped to watch the end of Drawn to Animation and then headed for the Animation Building, Just missed Turtle Talk so walked over to Monsters Inc and then back and again missed Turtle Talk. We noticed them getting ready for another test of the Muppet Mobile Lab so found a spot to watch that. This time the show was shortened due to a problem after only a couple minutes. After the show headed for Disneyland and the Flag Retreat. After the show walked down Main Street and around the Castle and into Fantasyland. Stopped to eat dinner at the Village Haus and then headed back to the car for a warmer jacket for the evening. After retrieving the jacket walked over to Downtown Disney stopping at Rain Forest Cafe to use a gift certificate I had. Strolled through Downtown Disney and back to DCA. Headed for Soarin to use my Fastpass and then over to Disneyland. The parade was just rolling down Main Street. Bypassed it cutting through some shops and headed to Frontierland. The Columbia was boarding for a rare night cruise so went for a spin around the Rivers of America. After disembarking headed for Adventureland to check out the lines and ended up at the Tiki Room. Then headed back through the hub and over to Tomorrowland. Used my Buzz Fastpass and continued on to the VMK post to return the lastest quest and pick up my prize. Stopped for a song or two at the Tomorrowland Terrace and then continued on past the Matterhorn and back to Main Street. Walked through the hub and by Plaza Gardens. Cut through to Frontierland and then Adventureland on my way back to Main Street. Stopped by the Plaza Inn to grab a bite and then headed down Main Street stopping in a couple stores while waiting for the fireworks. Watched Remember and then headed back for the car and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Actual Walking Time: 4:02:05
* 103 steps per minute average
* 2.94 mph average

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello all,

As you saw in the pictorial update Friday was a picture perfect day at the Disneyland Resort. The crowds and weather were both mild and to top it off I got to see the new WDI project, the Muppets Mobile Lab. Most attraction wait times around the parks were well under an hour except for Space Mountain and Soarin really for most of the afternoon/evening.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • Throughout the afternoon the Columbia was in port and open as a photo spot. You could go onboard and explore the ship and take pictures. Then starting at 6:00pm it started making trips around the Island. The Mark Twain was in the harbor all day with no signs of work being done. Also its lights were on all day, which seemed odd. It was really nice to get a rare night cruise on the Columbia, I cannot remember the last time (or even if I have) done that. My assumption is this was done because of the work on the Island and to allow them to work during the day and move people, equipment, etc.. back and forth. Also it makes it harder to see what is going on the Island. Wonder if this will continue once the Spring break crowds arrive or if the boats will return to day trips.

  • While taking pictures of the sub lagoon I spoke with a CM on the station platform and they said it the Monorail will be cleared for round trip service again starting this week (assuming the current plan holds and their information is/was accurate) so that sounded like good news to me.

  • The highlight of this trip for me was getting to see Walt Disney Imagineering's latest living character creation, the Muppet Mobile Lab. They were doing some limited tested for about a week at DCA (Tuesday through Sunday I believe the LA Times or some other website said, I cannot remember where I read it). As you saw in the pictures it appears to be a giant Segway type device with Beaker and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew on board. They roll out and perform experiments with the guests. I caught the tail end of one show and then stuck around for the next but unfortunately they had a problem and retreated backstage before the show could really get going. The technology has really come a long was compared to Lucky the dinosaur. These two characters both have very fluid motion and are on a unique transportor. The detail on the vehicle was great to see and read. I am curious to see where they are going next and how these living characters will be used within the parks.

  • When I went to grab my jacket the parking lot trams were quite out of cycle and were taking forever (three were in a row and if you missed them either way you were in for a good wait).

  • There was no Castle/finale float in the Parade of Dreams Friday evening. I did not see it. I was in a bad position to see what was in its spot, but my assumption is the characters were walking the route. But by the time I realized it was not out I was halfway down Main Street and well in front of it and did not want to fight back through the crowd to see.
