Trip Log:

Started off this perfect December afternoon heading for DCA. Spent a little time at Santas Beach Party then headed out to Bugsland and then out to the Pier by way of the Wharf. Walked around the Pier to get some Midway Mania shots and ride the Sun Wheel, but unfortunately it was closed down. So I finished the loop and walked through GRR and Condor Flats (grabbing a Fastpass for Soarin on the way). Then walked across the Esplanade to Disneyland. Took some pictures of the Candlelight set up on Main Street and thenof the Castle area before heading into Tomorrowland to grab some sub lagoon progress shots. I walked around the Matterhorn and checked out the wait on Small World, a little too long for my taste, so walked back through Fantasyland on my way to the Big Thunder Ranch to check out the new arrivials. Took some pictures of Flyer and Fryer (the pardon turkey and his backup) and then wandered around the reindeer roundup for a while before continuing on down the trail and into New Orleans Square. Grabbed a Fastpass for Haunted Mansion then walked out to Critter Country to get some pictures of the Holiday decorations during the day (which I had not done yet this year). I turned around and headed back to NOS and jumped on the train over to Toontown. I arrived right as the Christmas Fantasy parade was ending and I jumped on Small World with no wait at all then headed back to Fantasyland and walked through the Castle to Main Street. I was heading down to the Flag Retreat and got sidetracked listening to the Carolers. Found an ok spot for the retreat (which was a challenge with the Candlelight preparations). After the retreat I headed over to DCA and walked quickly out to the Pier in an attempt to make it on the Sun Wheel before it became too dark to take pictures of the construction work. I had mixed results with the pictures.. I then finished the loop of the Pier and walked through GRR and Condor Flats. I arrived at Taste Pilots grill about the time the Block Party Bash was starting. I decided it would be a good time to eat so stopped for a bite to eat at the grill. Then wandered around the Beach Party for a while before heading down the backlot. Since there was no wait at all walked on Monsters Inc then walked through the lobby of the Tower of Terror. It was getting colder so time to take the tram back to the car for the heavy jacket. After switching jackets I walked over to the Disneyland Hotel to check out the holiday decorations then walked through Downtown Disney and into Disneyland. The Christmas Fantasy parade was just ending again so to avoid the traffic I hopped on the Train and road out to Toontown. Had a few minutes to kill while waiting for the next projector show at Small World so walked through Toontown. Then back to catch the show at Small World. After the show wandered down toward the Castle and since it was not too crowded I played around with the camera to get some night shots with the holiday decorations then headed into Frontierland to do the same. Realized I had not walked through Adventureland yet so cut over there and walked on the Jungle Cruise then headed out to NOS and used my Fastpass for Haunted Mansion. After riding I saw the band was heading out on the Rivers of America so found a good place to sit and watch them and then decided to stay there for Fantasmic. Waded through the masses and out to Main Street just as Believe was starting. Watched the show from a semi obstructed spot near Town Square then after the snow fall headed back to the tram, car, and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Actual Walking Time: 3:20:33
* 107 steps per minute average
* 3.05 mph average

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello all,

Friday was a great day at the Disneyland Resort (that was supposed to kick off a great weekend but SC blew that on Saturday.. oh well there is always nice year... FIGHT ON Trojans!!). Friday the weather was perfect (got into the mid 70s and then dropped to the low 60s), the crowds were light, I had a great parking spot (right as you got off the escalator), and there was not even a wait to get into the garage, the stars had aligned nicely.

Trip logs and mileage reports are in the Park Miles section.

DCA Notes :

  • Headed to DCA first, and was surprised to find the Sun Wheel closed. Not sure what happened but there was a custodial CM coming up the exit and all the attraction CMs were working the entrance/exit saying they had no idea when it would re-open. I saw no maintenance guys around. It was running later in the evening.

  • Most of the attraction wait times were under 15 minutes or walk ons most of the afternoon/evening

  • Speaking of rehabs.. it was good to see the Lady Bug Boogie running in Bugsland, its been a long long time since I saw that.

  • Ate dinner at Taste Pilots Grill. I thought the food was great and the self service cash registers worked nicely but the constant questions about add ons were a bit annoying. I especially liked the toasted bun.

  • The two times I went by the Beach Party Blast I was surprised to find no real crowd around. The band was out, Santa was out, and characters were around but there were really no people.. the second time no one was even lined up to see Santa.

  • After the Block Party Bash the park really emptied out. I walked down the Backlot and right onto Monsters and could have walked onto Tower (just stopped by the Lobby to grab some pictures).

Disneyland Thoughts/Observations:

  • Disneyland was in full preparation mode for the Candlelight so Main Street traffic flow, including the train station were a bit scattered and disjointed, but things still went fairly smoothly. (Speaking of the Candlelight I talked to some people who went to the first show Saturday and they said the CMs seemed quite confused on the crowd control aspect and they waited a long time to get in and get seated (they had reserved seats) they also said it appeared the Club 33 section was not that well organized either, which seemed odd.. )

  • Speaking of the Railroad, I went on two short hops and both times the train had to come to an E-stop as it approached the station because people were coming in the exit. The first time at NOS and the second time at Toontown. Not sure if this is because people are oblivious to the exit signs or what? I cannot remember the last time we had one e-stop but two in the same afternoon seemed like really odd timing.

  • During Fantasmic the Little Mermaid unit did not go by during the princess medley, not sure what happened. She was on the Mark Twain at the end.

Other Thoughts/Observations:

  • Spent some time at the Disneyland Hotel and I found their holiday decorations to really be on the light side. Remember in years past when they would put up the large Santa area, an ice rink, a holiday dancing waters show, and more.. well this year there are some decorations but nothing over the top, Santa is down by a Ballroom, off to the side, the tree is out by the Pool, and there is really no special entertainment except for some strolling carolers.. of which I caught I set, that turned out to be a nearly private performance for me except for some CMs in the lobby..
