Trip Log:

We started off the day heading for DCA to see what is new. Your immediately hit with adds for the upcoming Primetime weekend upone parking your car. Once your to the parks and in DCA the ads continue. Upon entering the park, I headed down the Backlot, around Tower, then back through the entrance plaza and to Bugs followed by a trip through the Wharf and a brief look out at the Pier. Next up a leisurly stroll past GRR stopping to listen to the Miner 49ers. Then continued on through Condor Flats. Stopped to listen to the Surf Band then over to Disneyland. Walked down Main Street and around the castle. Through Frontierland, stopping to watch them take a couple trains off Big Thunder, then around the Trail and through Fantasyland, out to Toontown, then back and around Matterhorn and into Tomorrowland. Walked by Buzz then to the hub to wait by Partners for some of the group. Late as usually so headed over to the Tiki area for some pictures then they finally showed up so back through Adventureland and out to Critter Country, not much happening so back along the Rivers and through Frontierland to the hub. Thought for a bit then headed out of the park and over to McD's for dinner. After eating it was back to DCA and down the backlot. Stopped in the Animation building to watch Drawn to Animation. After the show hung out in the lobby then headed out the Pier. Did our loop and then stopped by GRR to watch the people get wet. Stopped by White Water for an ICEE before heading through Downtown Disney. Went to the monorail station, and it was a long line, so back through Downtown Disney and into Disneyland. Headed down Main Street and stopped at the Carnation Gardens to watch Swingtown. After the set it was off to Tomorrowland and Innoventions. Strolled through and then headed out to Small World then back through Fantasyland and around the trail. Cut through Adventureland and back to Carnation. Just missed the set and stopped by the castle for some R&R. Headed down Main Street stopping in Disneyana before watching the fireworks and heading home.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello all,

The crowds at both parks were really light considering it was a perfect Friday in mid-August. The weather was in the mid 70s most of the afternoon/evening. Over at DCA Tower of Terror had a 13 minute wait posted, even though it was really a walk on. Soarin was around half an hour and GRR slightly longer. Where as over at Disneyland Splash was almost 90 minutes, but both Pirates and HM now without Fastpass were under 30 minutes for the whole afternoon/evening, usually looking like walk ons really. As you saw in the pictorial update upon arriving at Disneyland you could easily take photos of no one around the hub or the castle forecourt. Usually there are guest milling around or traveling back and forth, this just seemed weird. Guess with the castle covered it altered the traffic flow quite a bit.

Below are some comments and observations regarding this trip.

Trip logs and mileage reports are in thePark Miles section.

Disneyland & DCA:

  • It was really hard to walk around without knowing that the Primetime Weekend was coming up. There seemed to be more banners, signs, billboards up this year than in previous. Not sure why.. the entertainment offerings seem slightly less with the weekend. Also still no idea why they do not make the schedule for the two days widely available in the internet so you can plan your days.

  • Finally managed to catch a complete set by the Miner 49ers. They were great to watch and listen to. I still wish there was more seating in the area. Most guests have to stand many blocking the main walkway which just doesn't make sense. It means they are either causing a traffic jam or they end up moving on to get out of the way.

  • The Drawn to Animation show's film segment has been switched to talk about the upcoming release of Chicken Little. It seems really strange why they would skip the Incredibles since its a November release and Chicken Little isn't until next year. I know the relationship with Pixar isn't the beest, but seems to me they still have an interest in this new film succeeding, and the banners on the back side of Millionaire had been changed to Incredibles

  • As for the Chicken Little clips themselves they did not really make me want to see the film, not sure why. The computer animation looked good, but the story just did not draw me in. The tag line that stood out was this story picks up where the original leaves off.

  • We stopped in White Water snacks for an ICEE and snack and wow the prices have jumped. A few weeks ago the ICEE was around $2.60, we think $2.50 but then we thought it may be $2.59, anways Friday they cost us $3.69, wow now that is inflation...

  • We went out to the Monorail station for a ride into Disneyland, and upon seeing the line we wished they would change back to the system where everyone has to disembark the monorail at both stations, this way you could quickly get on with a one or two train wait. We waited through one train and realized if it kept on that pace it would be about a half dozen trains before we could get on. So we headed back down and walked to Disneyland.
