Trip Log:

Started off the day headin for DCA and to meet people at Screamin. Walked the Pier and headed to Condor Flats, grabbed a fastpass for Soarin, wow 9:25 thats late, went down the backlot to check on Aladdin tickets, all gone so we headed over to Disneyland. Stopped by the Plaza to get a new AP for one member of the group, caught some Cloggers at Carnation while waiting and then through Adventureland, road Jungle Cruise, and then walked along the Rivers, and out to Critter Country. Checked out the new Pooh store and then back along the rives, grabbed a fastpass for Big Thunder and continued through the trail and into Fantasyland. A couple people went on Matterhorn and I decided to take a stroll through Toontown, then Fantasyland and Tomorrowland to check out Space Mountains closure. Back through Tomorrowland and pass Matterhorn to see where they are... still a ways to go so back to the Rivers and cut through the hub heading back to Matterhorn, met up and headed to DCA and Flik's. Quite a few people, but we waited for the Chew Chew train and then took in its Tough to be a Bug. Then we caught the Barncats at the entrance to Bugsland. Back to Disneyland and took the train to NOS and then over to Thunder so they can use the Fastpass, waited for them and then off to dinner. Ate at Red Rockets and then monorailed to Downtown Disney. Walked through and into DCA. Walked the Pier and road the Sun Wheel and finished the loop. Headed back to Bugsland and road Fliks, the Drive Em Buggies twice, and Francis once. Back through the park and finally time to use our Soarin Fastpass. Road Soarin and then headed home.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

** After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

The parks were both crowded on this Good Friday afternoon/evening. The best crowds we have seen in quite a while, excluding Christmas week. Disneyland had a much denser crowd and longer waits, but DCA had a great showing. For example we grabbed a Soarin' fastpass around 3pm and it was not good till 9:25. There were new guidebook covers (well they started April 10th but I have not been there) featuring Playhouse Disney and Winnie the Pooh. People say the economy is in the dumps, but it sure did not show at DLR. The parks were crowded, World of Disney had lines of 5-10 people at every register we passed. Redd Rocketts had a line out the door around dinner time.

The resort had a new type of Fastpass, a Surprise one. We got one to Tough to Be a Bug when we picked up a Soarin Fastpass. I also saw they had them for Honey I Shrunk the Audience, guessing it was with Star Tours? I thought this was a great idea and a way to drive people to the attractions (think Indy should have a Tiki Room one). I saw many more people take notice of them, compared to the small messages the Fastpass Tickets always have. They really felt like they got something since it was entire ticket to use.

We have moved our trip rundowns and mileage reports to our Park Miles section.

Disneyland Items:

  • Speaking of Redd Rocketts, $5.19 still seems high for a piece of cheese pizza. Out in toontown its $5.99 for a personal pizza and a salad. By the way, does anyone know if Redd Rocketts still does free refills, just curious?

  • Great to see some entertainment out at Club Buzz in the evening. Did not care for the band, but many others seemed to. They were called the 80s All Stars.

  • I overheard the best Disney myth/explaination I have ever heard. I was walking by Matterhorn, looking at the Subs lagoon, and overheard a boy ask his father, what's this (referring to the Matterhorn). His father correctly answered the Matterhorn, but went on to say that it was a bobsled ride built for the Olympics that were held here in Los Angeles. His wife then piped in, I never knew that, and they strolled away. I thought this was close, it is a bobsled ride, but it was built in 1959 and the Olympics in LA were in 1984 and were the summer games, not the winter ones...

  • Pooh seemed to be going over well. The area was a mob scene and the standby line was 110 minutes. The store was nothing to write home about, but the candy portion of it was fun to visit.

  • Got to ride in the caboose on the train, which was my first time in it. Kind of fun, a different perspective on things from back there. One major plus is the panded seats.

  • The monorail queue was back along the sub lagoon and the area of the old sub queue was for the hotel people only.

DCA Items:

  • Road Drive Em Buggies twice, still the slowest bumper cars I have ever seen, but anyway the point I wanted to make is the CMs working it were cool and were letting you stay on as many times as you wish. Also they turned all the lights off for a while, made it a little more fun.

  • Still on the Drive Em Buggies, wish they would figure out a way to do a full size AstroBlaster like they have a DisneyQuest. It would be a fun addition, maybe in tomorrowland to help it out...

  • Groove 66 and Road Trip both had several faces we did not recognize singing.
