3/05/04 - A Disneyland Resort Visit

General Thoughts:

Hello all,

This was sort of a strange trip for us. We arrived relatively early then had to leave for a few hours then returned again. So it felt like a fragmented trip. The crowds in the park seemed about average. No really long lines, but a fair amount of guests lingering around.

Ate dinner over at White Water snacks, did not realize they close at 7pm, seems a little early. I would have assumed they stay open till 8ish.

My never ending grip about the way the parking garage is set up has a new dimension this week. Why are you not informed of the open and closed pay booths until you are just about on top of them? When we returned to the parks it was around 6pm and there were only two booths open in the middle. Well this led to some frustration due to the fact of the long line and people "cutting" in from either side becuase either they did not know only two were open or they just were trying to get in faster. This goes back to something I discussed a long long time ago... why not have a set of "express" lanes where Annual passes can be scanned by a machine and a gate opened.. that way there is no need for a CM and the lines will all move faster. I bet adding two or three "express" lanes would cut the wait times substantially...

Trip logs and mileage reports are in thePark Miles section.

Disneyland & DCA:

  • Watched Snow White again, this time managed to work my way up to the front row. It was great to be able to see the actors faces, which is a dimension you miss being back. The show itself seemed the same, my opinion has not changed from my initial review in the last geekspeaks. Still think the theater needs to be enclosed completely to really do the show justice and the ending just sort of happens.
  • Finally... I finally managed to get on a Segway at Innoventions. The line had under a dozen people, which I read to be about 30 minutes so I jumped in it. It took closer to 20 minutes. The experience itself is about 3-5 minutes per guest and with only two segways running it takes some time. I really enjoyed it. Here is something that most people cannot do on a regular day and it truely is a new technology being showcased. I wish more of Innoventions was like this.

  • One other note from the Segway area. They have put a Panasonic Indy car in the middle where the GMC Jimmy used to be. The CMs said it was moved in overnight on Thursday and they had not been informed what to say about it. I found it rather interesting that one of the fastest thing on wheels (the indy car) and one of the slowest things on wheels (the segway) were sharing the same space.

  • One last note: I found it rather annoying that the CMs were not allowed to answer a basic question that comes to guests minds about the Segway. I heard at least a half dozen guests ask about the pricing. In all cases the CM politely explained there are three models and to visit the website (which was written out on a card they passed out) to learn more. I don't know why they cannot say that a base model starts at x dollars (I saw Amazon starting at around $4,000).

  • While on the train I noticed that the Hunchback arena is being gutted. Looks mostly dismantaled. Next time I will try for a picture. I read rumors on the web a while ago that the stables were to come back as a placeholder for a while. Anyone know anything about this?
