 The Geek Speaks:

Welcome to the disneygeek.com Geek Speaks section. In this section I will post my comments on trips to the parks or other Disney related events.

12/26/03 - The Rose Bowl Teams @ DCA

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

This was a brief and last minute trip to the Disneyland Resort. We arrived around 1:30pm and we were out of the park by 3:30 and out of DD by 6. The crowds around the resort seemed healthy. Disneyland had a long line to get in, DCA even had a good size line to get in. At 1:30 all ticket buildings had long lines too. Once inside DCA the parked felt really busy... nice to see.

We have moved our trip rundowns and mileage reports to our Park Miles section.

DCA / Rose Bowl Event - Items:

  • There were many banners, signs, and papers for the Rose Bowl day. The problem was nothing had times listed on it. I think it would have made things a lot smoother to have times posted. Instead you picked up a piece of paper that said "10am - 6pm" and then listed 5 items. Not much help. Disneyland.com listed the 2:30pm event and that was it.
  • I was surprised not to see either University band... I thought they were supposed to be at the park. All I saw was the High School band. It would have been great to see the bands as the pre-show for 30 minutes or so as we waited.
  • As you saw in the pictorial update the stage was relatively small and out in the bay area. Seating was extremely limited and standing room was fairly full.
  • Both teams were there, but only the 4 or 5 guys were singled out. I thought they should have had a spot where the teams could stand so you would be able to see all of them.
  • I wish they would have had a vision board or something to see closeups of the people (just as they do with the ABC, soap opera, etc...)
  • I saw two picture areas and they both had the same cut out (or at least a very close replica.. )
  • The "parade" was really slow and drawn out. The High School band marched in from the Pier end of the parade route and stopped out from of Golden Dreams. They waited for a good 10 minutes or so then broke into the USC Fight Song (the audience went crazy) then a convoy of three convertibles approached from the normal parade direction with the coach and players from SC. They get dropped off..the band stops the cars leave. About 10 minutes later or so the band strikes up again and this time playing California Here we come. Again Three cars from the normal parade direction, this time with the Rose Court and Queen. Then a good 15 minutes later the Michigan fight song and their three cars from the normal parade direction. My question is were they recycling the cars or what? Why the long pauses in between.
  • The even itself was fine. A lot of speeches and such, but everything was kept short.
  • I thought the finale song went on a little too long and many of the people on stage seemed to get bored..
  • All the music was supplied by Groove 66.. that's fine and all, but where were the bands... this was a College Football Event. I wanted to hear the fight songs again.. where was Tribute, where was Conquest... oops soory, that is my SC bias coming in.. after years of Football and events there I just assume those songs are required.

  • Another nice addition might have been a display with some game history, or the trophy, or even an ad from ABC sports. There was nothing really...
