Welcome to the disneygeek.com Geek Speaks section. In this section I will post my comments on trips to the parks or other Disney related events.

11/14/03 - Disneyland Resort

** After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Overall it was a nice relaxing trip to the Disneyland Resort. The crowds were light and we were able to visit several attractions and watch a couple shows.

We have moved our trip rundowns and mileage reports to our Park Miles section.

Disneyland Items:

  • Disneyland had what I would consider Mild Crowds for this time of year. I did not see any extremly long queues. Main Street had a large crowd for Believe, but then they all seemed to blend in and disappear. For example around 2pm the line for Small World was about 15 people long only. At 7pm it was about 15 minutes only.
  • To followup on the short queues. In the late evening around 8pm or so. We manged to get on Dumbo, Snow White, Courosel, and Pinochio in a 20 minute time span. The only attraction that really had a line was Peter Pan and that was probably only around 30 minutes.
  • While walking through a couple stores I noticed they were selling Holiday Magic CDs. I read the track list to see if anything has changed, and guess what. It has not. They still have Believe, Small World, and Luminaria on the CD. My question is why is Luminaria still on there even though it is long gone and a lot of guests probably do not have a clue what the show was.

DCA Items:

  • DCA crowds seemed lighter than usual. Soarin' was a walk on for most of the afternoon with a 20 minute line gathering in the evening.
  • Santa's Beach Party seems to not be attracting large crowds. At any given set I would not say the number of families watching the show is more than 20. One good thing about the show is if you want pictures of your kid with the characters or video of them dancing with a character then this is a perfect show to go to. There seemed to be a fair amount of one on one time with the characters. One thing that might help out is if they actually posted or listed the schedule in the guidebook.
  • Speaking of listing in the guidebook why isn't the Magic of Brother Bear listed?
  • I went to watch the Magic of Brother Bear @ the Redwood Creek Trail in DCA. Overall I was not that impressed with the show. It is geared toward young children with an emphasis on audience participation. What ever happened to the old Disney entertainment that was fun and entertaining for all without being geared to a specific audience. The show is a live story telling cast member comes out and talks with the audience. He interacts with several props on the stage. Eventually Koda shows up and they talk a bit then Kenya (sp?) shows up and the shows ends and you are able to take pictures with the characters and around the stage.
  • I walked by during two shows and saw a third. All three were full and standing room only with guests having to stand outside the theater area too. I would recommend this show to guests with young children. I would get there early and get a seat too. For the rest of us Disneygeeks, it may be worth seeing if you want to see the state of DCA entertainment. I doubt I will purposely seek out and watch this show ever again. For comparison, the Goofy Beach Party show that used to be on the Backlot I would stop and watch as I walked by, where as this one I would keep on walking.
  • The Brother Bear cave was a nice little addition but nothing spectacular.
  • Tower of Terror is moving along. They were testing the center shaft most of the day and then toward the evening the left and center were working. As night fell the work lights on the right went on near the top and you could see people working. The entrance way to Tower looks to be coming along the side gates are up and the roadway leading in looks repaved.
