8/29/08 - My thoughts and observations from Fridays trip to the Disneyland Resort

Hello all,

Jason,

Friday was a relaxing day at the Disneyland Resort. The crowds seemed about average, with it being fairly light in the early afternoon and getting heavier as night fell. I was expecting it to be more crowded with the Holiday weekend, ok weather, and the Half-Marathon this weekend, but I was pleasantly surprised. The wait times for most attractions were mild, with Nemo well under an hour the couple times I walked by. Toy Story Midway Mania hovered around the 45 minute mark.

Trip logs and mileage reports are in the Park Miles section.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • This weekend marks the annual Disneyland Resort Half Marathon (I believe its the 3rd one). Friday was registration and a Health/Fitness Expo at the Disneyland Hotel. I spent a little time walking through the convention center. I am not a runner and have no idea how this compares to other events, but the lines seemed to be flowing ok with no major bottlenecks when I was there. I thought the Expo was a little small and not that interesting, but this could be because I was not that interested and did not know that much about most of the products/displays.

  • As I walked through the parks you could see the work beginning for the off season with walls starting to show up, for example Ariels Grotto is walled off and being converted to the Pixie Hollow. In the coming days even more walls will go up. It should be interesting to see how this year stacks up to previous years. From everything I have read there are quite a few projects kicking off. One that I just saw an article on is Golden Dreams is slated to close mid-month... so if you want to see Whoopi one last time, you better plan a trip in the next week (if that article is correct).

  • Caught the Pixar Play Parade out on the Pier (well across from Golden Dreams) and all the units, acrobatics appeared to be in place... nice to see the parade back at 100% (which its been for most of the summer).

  • Over at Innoventinos nothing new to report inside. you still walk by all the pre-show segments on your way to the Dream House.. wonder when or if those will open? The couple we walked by looked to be ready to go. I was just happy we only had a 5 minute wait. Luckily the CMs were letting quite a few people in each pod, unlike last trip where they were limiting it so you had to wait longer.

  • To close with I owe someone an apology, but not sure who. Yesterday I received a feedback comment/question about Pirates of the Caribbean and it somehow got put in the wrong email folder and lost, so you will not be getting a reply from me (please resend and I will respond). If I remember correctly the question was about the changes to the attraction. Both Disneyland and Disney World versions underwent several upgrades and some additions from the film. The majority of the attractions stayed the same, this includes the flume, scenes, etc.. the changes had to do with upgrading the audio, lighting, etc.. then adding Captain Jack Sparrow to three scenes and Barbosa to one. I think that answers the question... again I apologize for loosing your email.
