08/09/02 Disneyland Trip...

** After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

In this 13 hour visit to the resort we tacked on another 14.07 miles (28,650 steps). Pedometer acquired from our friends over at SierraMountainWorks.com

Decided to try something new with this geekspeaks. A listing of what we did (in the order we did it, excluding shopping):

Peter Pan, Autopia, Small World, Cartoon Spin, Haunted Mansion, Golden Zephyr, Sun Wheel, went to Big A (Edison Field) to buy Angels tickets and grab lunch, Soarin, Blast!, One Man Dream, Sorcerer's Workshop, Millionaire, Billy Hill, Dinner at Award Weiners, College Band in front of the Castle, Village People, Flag Retreat, Barrage, Village People, the Fenians, DEP, Believe.

In both parks at most of the cash registers there are now advertisements for Beauty and the Beast DVD preorder. If you buy from the park you can get the DVD, free shipping, and another DVD (Hercules, Mighty Joe Young, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, The Kid, Whispers, or Life Size).

One other generic comment. Noticed that the 5th floor of M&F now has speed bumps too. First time I have parked up there in quite a while, so this may be old news. I know as of last weekend the third floor did not have any. I have the worst luck. In the morning I was stuck outside. When I came back to the park around noon I was on the 5th floor very last row about a dozen cars from the end. I think the garage has something against me and I always have to walk the entire structure... oh well at least I did not have to drive around the garage alot.

DCA Items:

  • The crowd at the park seemed about average for this summer. Not too long of waits, but quite a few poeple moving around.
  • We grabbed a Hot Dog on the Backlot and ended up sitting over by Hollywood and Dine (which is closed indefinitely). We had at least half dozen people stop by and ask where we got the food.
  • The concert crowds seemed about equal to the Bangles. Don't know if that was due to the new times or the popularity of the Village People.
  • This was our first time to the park with the new Concert times. We really enjoyed the later times. The 7:45 concert with the lights and cool weather was perfect. I am not a Village People fan, so I was not impressed by their concert. The two show seemed almost identical, same jokes and timing. Almost as if it was a tape.

Disneyland Items:

  • Over at Disneyland the crowds were heavier than DCA, but still not that bad. You were able to walk around comfortably. We were at Disneyland a little after 8am and were able to get on quite a few attractions with no substantial wait
  • Finally got on Small World (Look for a picture tour on Monday). It looks great. The colors are so much brighter, more glitter, and the lighting seemed better.
  • Was surprised to get into Billy with only a 5 min wait. It was great to catch the show again.
  • I was really surprised to see all the work going on during the day in the middle of Summer. There was painting in several locations around the park. Just shows how much it really needs.
  • During Believe we overheard a kid that was next to us say "Look ma, Mickey's new helicopter". The parent tried to explain it was Tinkerbell, but the kid was convinced it was Mickey in a helicopter. I have heard quite a few remarks about Tinkerbell, but this is definitely one of the most imaginative.
