04/23/10 - My thoughts and observations from Friday at the Disneyland Resort

Hello all,

Friday was a semi-unplanned trip to the parks. After visiting the last two weeks I was going to try to get back to my every other week schedule, but then I looked at the weather forecast and next week did not look promising so I decided to head back for a third week in a row(which of course has changed and now this week looks fine). The crowds were mild throughout the afternoon and they grew slightly as the day went on. The wait times were spotty and seemed to swing a little depending on events and your luck/timing. Overall most e-tickets seemed to be in the 30-45 min range for most of the time.

Trip logs and mileage reports are in the Park Miles section.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • A tram with doors pulled up to the stop as I was waiting to head to the parks, so I was able to give the doors another ride. Again no real problems with them and loading seemed about the same, the doors were not the reason for the slowness... I was kind of surprised the doors are completely manual, but upon further review I guess it makes sense. Sometimes the simple solution is the proper one. The doors did seem to make it slightly harder for people to try and get strollers into the regular rows, it took at least two people to accomplish this, one to hold the door and the other to lift.

  • Looking at the time guides for the parks it was nice to see the new Jammin Chefs made the cut. They perform Fri to Sun at 11:30, 1:00, 2:30, 4:30 and 5:30. I was skimming through the Disneyland side and I noticed the Princess Tiana show is no longer listed, but I thought I saw them out in NOS (I saw a group leaving but when I made it around to the area they were long gone so I did not get a good look).

  • The Food and Wine Festival entered its second weekend. I stopped by a couple of the culinary demonstrations. They were all full but there was plenty of room if you wanted to stand around the outside and watch. Also I caught entire Jr. Chefs show... its a nice little experience and the interaction with the CMs and Goofy could make for some great pictures.

  • Stopped byCaptain EO, the theater was about half full (hard to tell with how spread out everyone was but I would say close to half). The audience was still really into the show and all seemed to be having a good time. The theater movement seemed to be slightly less than I remembered, but then again its been a few weeks.

  • As you saw in the pictorial update there was not that much activity in Paradise Bay in the evening. It looked like they were setting up for some World of Color testing but nothing was happening during park hours. I guess that means the bugs must be under control that the testing scheduling has been reduced. It seemed like there was always testing going on before.

  • I was surprised that the overpass to Ball Road was closed in the evening (actually come to think of it, I did not see any cars using it when I arrived either). Anyone know what was going on? This backed up traffic on Disneyland drive for a light or two and meant a good 5-10 minute delay in exiting the structure and getting to the freeway.
