1/26/08 - My thoughts and observations from Saturdays trip to the Disneyland Resort.

Hello everyone,

Saturday was a great day at the Disneyland Resort, I had not planned on going but a break in the weather provided a great opportunity to visit for a few hours. The crowds were light and the weather perfect for the part of the day I was there. They had forecasted rain starting in the early afternoon and I think that caused many people to stay home and not venture to the park. I stayed until around 2:30 and the sun was out the entire time. The lines for most attractions were light, with the exception of Nemo which was 45 minutes and Peter Pan which peaked around the same. Most of the others were well under half an hour with many being walkons if you timed it right.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • There are LED lights embedded in the floral Mickey at Disneyland's entrance. They make it look like Tinker's flight path. These really did not come out in the photos but the effect looked ok in person. From what I have seen on other sites it looks great at night, so hopefully next trip I will be there at night and get some shots. I think this is a nice little plus and much better than most of the other Year of a Million Dream banners/etc.. that are up around the parks and this is light years ahead of the last overlay they had on floral Mickey with the plastic looking pieces..

  • Over at DCA, I went for a ride on the Sun Wheel, which had no line for the red cars and only a couple car wait for the swinging when I stopped by. As I was coming back down to get off for some reason we were given an extra time around. Then in the middle of this third trip around we stopped and went backwards probably 2 or 3 load cycles for some reason. I tried to look down but I could not see what was going on at the station. After a couple minute wait we continued on. So I ended up with about 3.5 rotations and an extended pause at the top, which was nice.

  • As you saw in the pictorial update Toy Story Mania is moving along a bit slower right now (due to the rains last week) but some new structures are taking shape and more detail work is emerging on the main facade. This is definitely going to lead to a new look for the area and shows great promise for DCA's future.

  • I do not know if it was just good timing, the cooler weather, lighter crowds, or what but there seemed be quite a few characters out no matter where I went and the lines were short for pictures with them.

  • There were lights and equipment going up to and turned on at the Dream Suite. It appears they were shooting pictures/video for the press release (which came out today). The first stays are to be awarded the end of this week.

  • As I was leaving the park it appeared there were only two parking lot trams running and the odd/annoying part was they were back to back, so they pulled out only a couple minutes apart so that meant a long wait on either end if you happened to miss them.
