Welcome to the disneygeek.com Geek Speaks section. In this section I will post my comments on trips to the parks or other Disney related events.

1/17/03 - Disneyland Resort

** After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

What a great day... sunny, warm, spend the evening at Disneyland, and mild crowds... the only bad thing was traffic getting to the park. It took me 90 minutes, better than last weeks 2 hours, to get the 30 miles from USC... Caltrans is definitely getting on my nerves, especially the 91 project...

Enough rambling about traffic. As I said it was a picture perfect day. It was in the low 80s when I arrived at the park and dropped down to the 60s when we left. Can not ask for much more in mid January...

We have moved our trip rundowns and mileage reports to our Park Miles section.

Disneyland Items:

  • Disneyland had a fairly mild crowd. It seemed a little denser than usual in the early afternoon, probably because so much of the park is walled off. But by evening it was very thin, one of the lightest Believe turnouts in a while.
  • Speaking of Believe for some reason the show was delayed 15 minutes... Strange thing was Disney only made one announcement right at show time that it would be delayed, usually its every 5 or 10 minutes.
  • More of the park is behind walls now with Small World down to be transformed back to its regular show.
  • Over along the Rivers of America they have added even more walls and fencing to keep you away from the river. Wonder why? Are the pictures people taking that hurtful? Its not like trade secrets are being revealed with the river drained... the closest thing to a secret is the Fantasmic equipment, much of which just looks like pipes anyhow...
  • We stopped by Indy a couple times to ride single rider. They were out of passes both times..
  • How I wish they would bring back Friday night bands in the park. It would bring tomorrowland to life again.

DCA Items:

  • DCA was back to its normal off season crowd, meaning extremely light. Aladdin played to full houses, but the rest of the park was pretty dead. You could easily walk around and go on attractions with minimal waits most of the evening
  • We sat in the orchestra level this time for Aladdin. Managed to get down in the third row on the right hand side. The angle was not too bad. I really enjoyed seeing the show from this close. It adds an extra dimension being able to see the slight gestures and expressions the actors make.
  • After my second viewing of Aladdin I stick to my first impression. Its a fairly decent show. I think its lacking a live orchestra. That would add some depth to it and really bring the music to life...
