From Page to Screen: The Evolution of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
The traditional story of Snow White, predating the Brothers Grimm by hundreds of years, was adapted in a surprising variety of ways by storytellers, dramatists, and filmmakers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These traditions culminated in a cultural milestone in the mid-1930s when Walt Disney built on them to create his first feature-length film. Join Lella Smith, creative director of the Walt Disney Animation Research Library and curator of the Museum’s comprehensive Snow White exhibition, and J.B. Kaufman, film historian and author of The Fairest One of All, as they retrace the remarkable chain of adaptations that led to the classic Disney animated feature.
