Nighttime Show Unveils Unique Choir, Original Music, Dazzling Technology Plus a Nutcracker Scene Danced by Toy Story Characters

ANAHEIM, Calif. (November 12, 2013) – “World of Color − Winter Dreams,” an all-new holiday version of the popular “World of Color” after-dark spectacular, debuts at Disney California Adventure Park, Friday, Nov. 15, adding even more merriment to the holiday season at the Disneyland Resort.

Hosted by Olaf the snowman from the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures’ animated feature “Frozen,” the “World of Color − Winter Dreams” spectacular combines new animation with classic winter scenes from beloved Disney and Disney●Pixar films. The show includes new music and special effects, along with new methods for utilizing the massive “stage” of water, color and light on which “World of Color” is presented.

Steve Davison, creative director of the original “World of Color” show in Disney California Adventure, also staged “World of Color − Winter Dreams.” Davison, parades and spectaculars, executive for Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment, said: “I’m thrilled and amazed to see ‘World of Color – Winter Dreams’ come to life on the Paradise Bay. Each night as we worked on the programming, it was fun to see the magic happen as we blended the new music, animation, lasers and special effects into a dazzling holiday show.”

More than eight million guests have enjoyed the original “World of Color,” which has been performed more than 2,100 times since it opened to rave reviews in 2010, part of the five-year expansion of Disney California Adventure. The breathtaking, award-winning nighttime show brings animation to life on Paradise Bay, as nearly 1,200 powerful fountains create one of the world’s largest projected water screens.

The all-new “World of Color – Winter Dreams” features additional, advanced technology. An ultra high-definition projection system presents a sharper version of the show, with more than four times the resolution of the classic “World of Color” system. Nearly 700 high-power LED strobe lights now line the structure of the California Screamin’ roller coaster, each with four individual control channels. Additional moving lights appear within the “rays” of Mickey’s Fun Wheel on Paradise Pier and the show glistens with 10 mirror balls on the speaker and lighting towers. Adding fun in the viewing area are six “snow generators” which create giant, floating snowflakes in six different designs.

“World of Color” brightens the season with an abundance of fun, color and music featuring, among others, the voices of Broadway stars Heather Headley, Josh Gad and Idina Menzel.

Adding an element of social media, the voices of singers from all 50 United States appear in the “Glow” carol, which opens the show. The participants signed up on a special “World of Color” Honor Choir website, operated by the Disneyland Resort and Grammy®-winning composer Eric Whitacre, who has joined hundreds of voices online in “virtual choirs” that feature singers performing in front of their computer webcams. Other Disney fans designed holiday cards online to appear in a “World of Color ­- Winter Dreams” sequence celebrating the spirit of the season.

As the show unfolds, OIaf, the lovable snowman from the Disney animated film “Frozen,’ conducts the audience on a journey through magical winter and holiday scenes, including Bambi and Thumper playing on a frozen pond and Elsa from “Frozen” singing her song, “Let It Go.”

The journey continues through a version of the lantern ascension scene from the film  ”Tangled” and into a delightfully wacky version of “The Nutcracker” performed by the stars of “Toy Story.” Olaf enacts his own innocent dream of enjoying a summer day, then leads the audience in a sing-along of holiday favorites, “Jingle Bells,” “Dreidel Song” and “Feliz Navidad.”
