ANAHEIM, CA, May 14, 2007 – For the first time in more than a year, the construction walls are down around the Submarine Lagoon at Disneyland in California. With home base of  Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage now visible in Tomorrowland, the Disneyland Submarine fleet was officially recommissioned today in anticipation of the attraction’s June 11 premiere.

The recommissioning ceremony took place early Monday morning before Disneyland opened to the public, and was conducted by United States Navy Vice Admiral John G. Morgan, Jr., Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information, Planning and Strategy. Vice Admiral Morgan continued a decades-long tradition which began when U.S. Navy officers commissioned the fleet for the Grand Opening of the original Disneyland Submarine Voyage in 1959.  When that classic attraction was retired in 1998, the Navy returned to decommission the fleet.

Addressing an audience of Disneyland “Cast Members” – employees who have been eagerly awaiting the return of the submarines - Vice Admiral Morgan paid tribute to the Disneyland “crew” who will pilot guests on Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. “The crew is the heartbeat of any ship at sea,” he said. “And I can see today the crew – or the Cast of the Disneyland Resort – has the same pride and dedication as we do.”

Vice Admiral Morgan was welcomed at the ceremony by Ed Grier, President of the Disneyland Resort, who, looking ahead to the June 11 premiere of the new underwater adventure, noted, “As we continue to celebrate the Year of a Million Dreams, we are excited to prepare a brand new attraction that we hope will make many, many dreams come true.”

Grier also introduced Tony Baxter, Senior Vice President of Creative Development for Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative arm for all Disney parks and resorts. Baxter, a longtime Imagineer, reflected on the long history of the Disneyland Submarine Voyage, from its first appearance in 1959 through his own involvement, as one of the leaders of a 200-member Walt Disney Imagineering team, in developing the new Submarine Voyage featuring Nemo, Dory and other characters from the hit Disney•Pixar movie Finding Nemo.

Following the recommissioning ceremony, Grier and Vice Admiral Morgan cooperated in a “merging of the waters,” pouring water from the East Australian Current, a key locale in the search for Nemo, into the Disneyland Submarine Lagoon.

The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, a major highlight of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disneyland Resort, features extensively enhanced versions of the eight original submarines from the Disneyland Submarine Voyage fleet. As members of the sub crew, guests will embark on an expedition to the site of an erupting undersea volcano.  Soon after departure, they will find themselves in the world of Finding Nemo, with Nemo getting into the swim of things right alongside the submarine.

Nemo and company are able to go along for the ride thanks to a stunning new imaging technology developed exclusively for this attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering. The Finding Nemo characters appear exactly as they do in the film, but in a real, three-dimensional underwater setting – with no special viewing glasses required!

Along with the improved unique underwater technology, the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage will feature fully sculpted Audio-Animatronics characters, including scuba divers and the scavenging seagulls (“Mine, Mine, Mine”) from Finding Nemo.

The submarine vehicles are enhanced in a number of ways, including the addition of two extra seats and porthole windows in anticipation of high guest demand. They also have been converted from the diesel power of the 1950s to environmentally friendly, fully electric power.

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage joins a full lineup of immersive experiences to be found at Disneyland during the Year of a Million Dreams celebration. The Resort is celebrating its “Dreams Come True” heritage by making literally millions of dreams, large and small, come true for eligible guests. Many money-can't-buy experiences—from exclusive Dream FASTPASSES for popular Disney attractions to around-the-world vacations or a stay in the special Mickey Mouse Penthouse at the Disneyland Hotel—are being awarded at random. There are other "Dreams Come True" opportunities for guests to meet and play with Disney Princesses at Disney Princess Fantasy Faire, duel with Darth Vader at Jedi Training Academy, create mayhem with the denizens of Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, or show their school spirit by joining in the fun of the High School Musical Pep Rally at Disney’s California Adventure park. The Year of a Million Dreams continues throughout 2007 both at Disneyland Resort and at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
