Geek's Thoughts: Walt Disney’s 1950 classic Cinderella has been re-released on various home video formats in the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" as part of the Disney 100 celebration.  The film has been restored and is available in 4K resolution for this offering and includes a half dozen classic bonus features.

 

The extras are drawn from the 2019 Signature Collection and 2012 Diamond Edition releases -

In Walt’s Words: The Envisioning of Cinderella is the highlight offering to me. This full length feature includes Walt Disney and many others who worked on the film discussing it. The audio is taken from various meetings during the production of the film. In addition to the audio concept art, sketches and reference footage are included.  This was originally released in 2019 and if you have not seen it, it provides a great window back in time to the production of Cinderella.

The look at the “new” Fantasyland at Walt Disney World is a fun look back to see how the expansion was promoted.    The other features were less interesting to me and I am curious why some of them were chosen vs other classic features that focused more on the creation of the film.

I thought there was a missed opportunity to have a featurette on the restoration process.  I was expecting something new to talk about the film and this release.  I did appreciate adding the In Walt’s Words to my digital library and this release of Cinderella is worth considering for that if you are a fan of bonus features and either do not have it or want it digitally.

Currently Disney+ has Cinderella with several extras too.  There is some overlap with the Diane Disney Miller Intro, The Magic of the Glass Slipper: A Cinderella Story and the Real Fairy Godmother pieces available.  The newly restored 4K version of Cinderella will be available on Disney+ August 25th and no details on additional bonus material have been released.
