Geek's Thoughts: Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar and current President of Pixar Animation and Disney Animation, has put together a very interesting read. It a business book at its heart talking about management philosophies but it is also the story of Pixar. How the company came to be, its struggles and how it laid the foundation for its success and how the Pixar team strives to maintain that high level of creativity and product. He also discusses the relationship with Disney over the years and the merger. As well as a chapter about his new role and applying his management principles to Disney Animation Studios. This book gives you some great insight into the culture of Pixar.

 

I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought many of the struggles and theories Ed describes are applicable to other organizations, both big and small and can offer you something to ponder in how you manager your teams.

The Disney/Pixar connection is strong and for us disneygeeks there is plenty to read and learn about how the companies paths crossed, how they worked together, and eventually how they merged.
