  • Page Number: 1
Disneyland security vehicles received a new paint scheme recently, I do not think I have posted a picture of one is one.
Time to take a look at the Star Wars construction progress. They have done a lot more clearing since I was last at the park. Looking to the right the berm is gone and the concrete that the backstage buildings were on is now gone too.
A closer look you can now see clear into the park and Tom Sawyer Island. No berm or other obstructions.
  • Page Number: 2
Moving to the left a bit they have started to carve out the new path for the river.
    Continuing to the left.
Notice the skyway building is still standing, I thought it would be gone by now.
  • Page Number: 3
Several earth movers still adding to the mound of dirt.
  • Page Number: 4
In the foreground looks like a hole is being dug on the left. With the trees you really could not see.
Interesting the tunnel is still there but the dirt around it is now gone.
  • Page Number: 5
    The skyway building
The arch and tree are all that is left of the former Big Thunder Ranch area.
    Looking toward Fantasyland.
  • Page Number: 6
The fence along Big Thunder. On the right is the end of the Big Thunder Trail.
With the berm gone you can see up river to the coffer dam and trees that are positioned behind it.
Here you can see how the island was carved away for a tighter turn.
  • Page Number: 7
What appears to be a path with dirt built up on both sides is taking shape in the middle of the site. Maybe it is one of the entrances where the train will pass overhead.
    A closer look.
Going to the far right of the site now.. In the distance is the Hungry Bear. In the middle is where the berm ends now. To the right equipment breaking up and removing concrete from the former backstage support buildings.
  • Page Number: 8
A wider view of the site.
A better view of the work on the right from this angle.
Looks like they are nearing the end of the concrete removal.
  • Page Number: 9
The canoe dock area and coffer dam.
Looks like they have cleared right up to the Hungry Bear in the river.
Moving back to the left you can sort of see the new river path (better pictures later from in the park.
  • Page Number: 10
A couple video clips taken from the parking structure of the construction.
    Sorting the debris.
One last wide shot of the site before heading to the parks.
  • Page Number: 11
Frozen Billboards at the Mickey and Friends Tram Stop
  • Page Number: 12
    The word of the day.
Closed attractions for today. A fairly short list compared to recent visits. Not sure why the swings do not make the DCA list since they are closed.
  • Page Number: 13
No visible progress on the ticket booth screens.
No lines to enter the park this afternoon (Disneyland was the same)
Buena Vista Street had people but it was not too crowded.
  • Page Number: 14
Donald was out on Buena Vista Street. I do not recall seeing this costume before.
Hollywood Blvd on the other hand had a lot of guests moving about.
  • Page Number: 15
Some of the mugs at Award Wieners.
A couple banners up along Hollywood Blvd for the Alice preview.
  • Page Number: 16
Another smaller sign for the preview near the arch.
the new Frozen show premiered last night for the media and invited guests and today are the first public performances.
Really surprised to see only 3 shows scheduled. This mob of guests were FastPass returns for the 2:55pm show. It was just about 2pm.
  • Page Number: 17
A closer look at the sign.
The temporary merchandise cart/location is back and features Frozen merchandise.
The area where the Kelloggs truck used to be is FastPass distribution. I saw they were gone for all three shows within an hour of park opening today.
  • Page Number: 18
Radio Stations were set up along Sunset.
Banners for the Premiere in the courtyard.
  • Page Number: 19
My plan was to try the standby line. I set an hour limit, so I entered the queue at 2:00pm
As luck would have it not many guests in Standby yet. That small group in the middle is all that were in front of me. I would say less than 50. Eventually they let us cross and get in line and fill in that queue.
The 1pm show, the first public show, let out around 2:15pm. Those coming out were excited and had positive things to say about the show as they passed by.
  • Page Number: 20
A friend spotted me and said they had an extra FastPass for the show. So they gave it to me. So I left Standby and went to find the end of the FastPass return line.
The end of the line happened to be up Hollywood Blvd, almost to the Red Car stop. So I actually went backwards in location but felt better being guaranteed entry. Even though my Standby spot would have gotten me. The Cast Members said it should not be a problem from where I was.
Eventually made it in the queue for the balcony (it was 2:41). The doors for the orchestra level have a Frozen overlay on them.
  • Page Number: 21
Marching up the steps at 2:54pm.. no way this show is starting at 2:55.
The doors up here have a Frozen wrap too. Still not sure why the Balcony seating color is red but the sign on the wall is yellow. Seems it should be red too.
Found a set in the third row just to the right of show center.
  • Page Number: 22
A little hard to tell but the curtain around the stage has projected images too.
A closer look at the backdrop projection.
  • Page Number: 23
    Show time.. 3:10pm start.
The projections around the stage. From up here you can see them and it adds to the show but you do feel immersed like I think you would down below.
The show opens with Frozen Heart as you would expect.

Anna meets Elsa in her ice castle
    Sven munches on Olafs nose..
  • Page Number: 37
A rock troll rolling around the stage. Could not help to think this would make a great BB-8 base.
Kristoff takes Anna to the Rock Trolls.
    Fixer Upper
  • Page Number: 38
Meanwhile back in the castle Hans reveals his plans to all.
Skipping ahead. Anna becomes a frozen statue as she saves Elsa.
Just like the movie everyone lives Happily Ever After.
  • Page Number: 39
    Olaf, Anna and Elsa
The show ends with Love is an Open Door encore
A wide picture of the stage and curtain. This is at 10mm and I could not fit everything into the frame from my seat.
  • Page Number: 40
During the finale the Duke and Hans in a balcony.
And their parents (or I guess the ghost of the parents) are in the other balcony.
  • Page Number: 41
4:13pm the show ended. So approx an hour performance..now the curtain call.
    The cast on stage.
  • Page Number: 42
Here are some clips from my vantage point in the balcony.
Here are some clips Disney released of the show.
  • Page Number: 43
The seats down in the Orchestra section received cup holders. The balcony did not.
    4:20 joining the exodus crowd.
On the street it was very crowded with guests trying to get into the queue for the last show of t he day and those from the second show trying to exit.
  • Page Number: 44
Then to top it off Five and Dime came rolling through (also they were cleaning up the media broadcast locations at the same time) so it was a perfect storm.
The bars still have signs up from the party last night.
  • Page Number: 45
An orchestra was performing on the Backlot stage. A much calmer scene than the street on the other side.
Olaf was meeting and greeting out by Stage 17 again.
There are quite a few promotions going on right now. Discounts if you buy multiple mugs.
  • Page Number: 46
Made my way over to Disneyland just after 5pm.
Donald and Minnie were greeting guests.
Goofy and Mickey were over by the gate too.
  • Page Number: 47
I thought this was a poor backdrop for Mickey with the gate. Not sure why they were standing there.
    Preparing for the Flag Retreat.
Up at the Main Street Train Station they have opened the cab of the Ernest S. Marsh so you can go inside and take pictures.
  • Page Number: 48
    A look around.
  • Page Number: 49
  • Page Number: 50
Time for the nightly Flag Retreat a good way to mark the Memorial Day weekend.
  • Page Number: 51
Zootopia comes out on home video in a little over a week.
Disneyland waits as of 5:27pm. Not too bad for a holiday weekend.
  • Page Number: 52
Heading toward the end of the Big Thunder Trail. you can see the dirt and equipment beyond the fence.
Taking a look at the Star Wars construction from this angle.
  • Page Number: 53
Panning across the site from right to left.
  • Page Number: 54
This gives a good sense of scale on the mound of dirt. Look at the construction equipment in the foreground how the mound towers over it.
  • Page Number: 55
Pirates has reopened. No sign of the rumored return of FastPass yet.
This area was very congested because the bridge is closed (due to treehouse work)
Still working on the Columbia (or at least the rails are covered).
  • Page Number: 56
    Same on the other side.
No visible progress on the island.
The supplies that were out 2 weeks ago are gone. So something is going on somewhere out there.
  • Page Number: 57
Walking up the trail to Critter Country. The parking structure is clearly visible giving a reverse angle on my opening pictures.
You can see the berm is gone and you can see clear through to the tramway fence.
The smaller fence marks the backstage road that cuts through the site right now.
  • Page Number: 58
A look through the fence from near the canoe dock. And panning right to left.
It is very odd to see it flat all the way back. It has not looked like this since 1954 probably when that was an orange grove.
  • Page Number: 59
That is the Hungry Bear dining area screen on the left.
  • Page Number: 60
    One more wide shot.
Random picture.. the companion restroom by the Hungry Bear.
  • Page Number: 61
From the lower level of the Hungry Bear
From the second story of the Hungry Bear you can see what appears to be the new path for the river taking shape.
To the left of the river is a ditch and then the dirt wall. Wonder if that will be where the marina will be.
  • Page Number: 62
A better look at the river path.
A wider picture of the area.
  • Page Number: 63
Looking to the left they are still sorting and clearing.
  • Page Number: 64
A couple video clips of the work from inside the park.
One more wide picture before moving on.
There are quite a few promotions going on right now. The Hungry Bear registers are looking really cluttered.
  • Page Number: 65
  • Page Number: 66
A Disneyland cat was making the rounds of the Hungry Bear dining area as I ate. It was begging for food from guests.
  • Page Number: 67

The CK Holliday in New Orleans Square.

The Monorail has returned to service since my last visit.

  • Page Number: 86
Noticed the screen was not over Mickey tonight on the Fun Wheel.
So no projections on the Fun Wheel. They did use some of the laser/lighting effects but no projections.
Instead they were on the Screamin loop
  • Page Number: 87
  • Page Number: 88
It was different with the lasers on Mickey.. this was during the parks medley for Small World. It looked better in person..
    A crowd favorite... fire.
I opted to watch Disneyland Forever from the parking structure to avoid some of the congestion.
  • Page Number: 89
The Finding Nemo segment. With the trees gone you get an ok view.
The main show was to the left but I thought the lighting of the Star Wars area was more interesting.
