Trip Log:

Arrived at the Disneyland Resort just before 1pm and was parked in the 2nd row of the Goofy level about midway down the aisle. No wait at security or for the tram. I was in the park about 20 minutes after parking. Arrived at the Dapper Dans were about to perform so stopped to listen to them then strolled up Main Street USA and into Adventureland. Continued out to the Rivers of America and decided to go for a cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat. Once back ashore took the Big Thunder Trail to Fantasyland then out to it's a small world mall to check on the projects there. Turned around and walked around the Matterhorn to Tomorrowland. Boarded the Monorail to Downtown Disney. Spent some time looking at the projects and shops as well snacking at Wetzels Pretzels before entering Disney California Adventure. Took Buena Vista Street to Hollywood Blvd and passed through Hollywood Land, Avengers Campus, Cars Land and San Fransokyo Square. Walked the loop of Pixar Pier then caught a performance on the Paradise Gardens Bandstand. Walked through Grizzly Recreation area to return to Buena Street and cross back to Disneyland. Encountered Goofy as we stepped into Town Square. Decided to walk through Adventureland again and out to New Orleans Square to check the Haunted Mansion queue. It was longer than our patience so continued on to Galaxy's Edge where Rise of the Resistance was reopening but already busier than we were willing to wait. We kept walking through Black Spire Outpost then Fantasyland to Toontown. We struck out again with the line for Runaway Railway out the door. Ended up going for a ride on the Disneyland Railroad where we waited two trains then did a loop and a half disembarking the second time we reached Main Street Station. Snacked a bit in Town Square before deciding to call it a night and head for the trams, parking structure and home. (Walking time 2:37 today)

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello everyone,

Friday I had no real agenda at the parks. The plan was to visit with family and friends and see if any opportunities arose. The Spring Break/Easter Season is finally wrapping up, it seems as if spring break lasted for months this year. The parks both felt crowded and wait times were higher than usual, especially early in the afternoon. The weather was cold, topping out in the low 60s with a decent breeze at times. The few times the sun came out it felt comfortable but for the end of April it was too cold for me!

Thoughts and Observations:

  • My visit started off with an ok parking experience. The line I choose had a handful of cars only but it moved slowly due to one cast member handling two lines. I picked a good lane to go up the ramp and drew a spot about midway on a close aisle. Security had no wait but continues to be inconsistent. They asked the normal question of did you get everything out of your pockets, I answered yes I removed everything that would set off the machine. Yet after going through I was questioned about why I didn't take my wallet and a handkerchief out of my pockets. A few visits ago I took the wallet out and the cast member looked at me and said you don't need to do that it only slows things down. It would be nice to see them go to a system that is more automated and consistent for all.
  • Today the new turnstiles were in full use with the facial recognition. It seemed to be a mixed bag in terms of speed. For those who figure it out it worked quicker, but for those that had issues it seemed to slow things down. The one downside I see to this is the cast member is further away and the interaction much less personal than before. They almost come across in a stand off way since they are several feet away behind a gate and watching a screen. The screens also slowed things down with kids in strollers.
  • Main Street was alive with crowds as we walked in. It was mid day and I was not expecting it to feel so busy. We found a spot to sit and watch the Dapper Dans since they were performing as we entered. I always enjoy entering to live entertainment or something going on.
  • As I mentioned above the crowds were on the heavy side and I had some bad luck with timing to visit attractions with minimal waits. We ended up sticking to transportation options experiencing the Mark Twain Riverboat, Monorail and Disneyland Railroad today only.
  • The statues/signs on the new trash bins in some dining locations continue to expand. This week I spotted a Cone at the Cozy Cone and a Droid at the Galactic Grill. So I have stumbled upon four now, last visit one at the Hungry Bear and Flo's. These are fun additions but the concept of sorting trash still seems to cause a lot of pause for guests and I saw a good number stop, start to sort then give up and toss it all in the trash bin.
  • In Downtown Disney there is progress on a number of fronts.
    • First in a non visible fashion. Recently a permit was filed for the demolition of Earl of Sandwich (the original La Brea Bakery Building) and two ticket booths. This will be to make way for the Porto's Bakery. No signs of work yet or indication of when Earls will be closing.
    • Tortilla Jo's deconstruction continues. Almost all of the facade and interior are removed and a crane is on site to remove steel. The former building should be gone relatively quickly now.
    • The former ESPN Zone building continues to be renovated and prepared for the retail locations taking it over. There was some minor visible progress on the exterior.
    • The new Earl of Sandwich building did not have a lot of visible progress compared to last week.
  • Downtown Disney had a healthy crowd when I walked through in the mid afternoon. I was disappointed to see I missed National Pretzel Day by a day. It is Saturday and they are participating again. You receive a free regular pretzel.
  • As the sun set the entertainment choices in both parks were minimal again, DCA even had less with the Food & Wine Festival over. Even the locations that had entertainment scheduled did not promote it well. The Bandstand in Paradise Gardens did not have show times or the band's name posted. The app and website had times but no name. We stopped by and it was an entertaining group (we missed their name though).
  • I did something I had not done in a while, I took the Disneyland Railroad for the Grand Circle Tour then disembarked where I was heading. So I did a lap and a half from Toontown to Main Street Station. The circuit moved at a good pace and the conductors were loading the train fairly quickly at each stop. It was so much more efficient than the experience I had at the Magic Kingdom a few weeks ago.
  • We called it a day around 8pm as the wind was still blowing and it was getting cold out. There were still a good number of guests entering the park with full trams passing us and the security lines moderately long.
