Trip Log:

Started off this humid (well humid for California) visit to the Disneyland Resort taking the tram from the Mickey and Friends garage then walking into Disneyland. Wandered down Main Street USA and around the hub. Watched the climbers on the Matterhorn for a bit then made my way out to the Small World Mall and Toontown. Circled back to the Matterhorn to watch Happy Hans and his son and then walked around to watch the climbers on the other side for a few minutes. Went through Tomorrowland and then the hub to reach Frontierland and the waiting Mark Twain. Cruised around the Rivers of America and then walked through Adventureland to the hub. Decided to go through the Castle to Fantasyland for some Matterhorn pictures then returned through the Castle to Main Street and headed for Buena Vista Street. Caught some of the Red Car News Boys on Buena Vista Street and then strolled down Hollywood Blvd. Poked my head into Dancin with Disney before traveling down Sunset, through Fliks and into Cars Land. Walked down Cross Street and through the Wharf to the Pier. Took a quick look around then wandered around GRR and to Condor Flats. Saw some of Minnies Charter Airlines as I walked by then walked through the Cafe and shops on the west side of Buena Vista Street as I made my way to Back to Disneyland. Had a few minutes so stopped by the Disneyana and Disney Galleries before the College Band came out for the Flag Retreat which was at 5pm today. After the retreat made my way down Main Street to Fantasyland and dinner at the Village Haus then out to the Big Thunder Jamboree to watch the last Billy set of the evening. After the show walked down the Big Thunder Trail and through Frontierland to Main Street. Was curious if the Band was going to do the preparade but instead there was a performing group called Dance the Magic Inc and they filled the pararade route with dancers of all ages. I took some pictures of this large group on Main Street and tried to catch them in the Small World Mall area too. Walked back to Main Street and watched Soundsational as I made my way back to the hub to watch the 7:15pm College Band set. After their set it was back to DCA. Walked through the east side of the street shops then Cars Land before making my way to the Mad T Party. Walked down Hollywood Blvd and the parade route. Stopped by Ghirardelli and then the Wharf area before heading back to Buena Vista Street to catch Magical from there. After the show walked back to the garage, found my car, and headed for home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 15,673 steps, 137 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

Friday was a nice day at the Disneyland Resort. The weather was on the humid side for Southern California and temps were in the low 80s. The crowds were also on the mild side with only the usual suspects pushing the hour mark or going over.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • I spent a good portion of the trip watching the Matterhorn this week. It was great to see the climbers back on the mountain this week and there were quite a few of them climbing all afternoon.

  • This week Happy Hans and his son Erik took to the Matterhorn to provide musical entertainment as part of the Limited Time Magic promotion. I really enjoyed catching their show and those that realized what was happening seemed to also. I thought they could have done a better job of advertising the event. There was not even a mention of it on the park entertainment schedule. To get the show times I sent a question to the DisneylandToday twitter account and they responded in a few minutes with show times, which was great! Also the audio for the show was limited to the walkway between the Matterhorn and Alice. I had first stopped near the Storybook entrance since there was shade and a clear view, but had to relocate as soon as the show started. There were some nice decent views of them throughout Fantasyland but unfortunately you could not hear them so most people did not notice them at all.

  • I did not spend that much time in DCA this trip. In my two passes through the park nothing really jumped out at me. I did find it interesting they had a sign up saying the Red Car was not stopping at the park entrance TODAY (yes all in caps) but later in the day it was. Guess they do not have a sign saying right now or something. I also caught the aerialist act again at the MadTParty and I again missed their name. The crowd reaction seems mixed to their performances. I have to agree.. it is something different to see but not sure it is a draw or something that you would want to see over and over again. Here is a video from June of a performance:

  • When I returned to Disneyland for the 5:05 College Band set I learned I really should pay attention to the time guide. I glanced at it but did not read that the College Band was not doing a Castle set this week, and the Flag Retreat was earlier. Luckily I heard the park PA announcement and was in the proper spot.

  • I was curious why the Flag Retreat was moved an hour early.. so I roamed around the parade route to see if something was going on around 6:00pm. I noticed several Disney cameras along the route so figured something was happening.. thought maybe the College Band was doing a pre parade performance or something. Then at 6:00pm the park came alive with a special performance by Dance the Magic. I was not familiar with the group so found a spot to watch in Town Square... soon I realized it was a massive group of dancers similar to what you see in the annual Christmas Parade telecasts. As they kept pouring out of the parade gate I decided to try and relocate to get a better picture of the scale of the group. They danced there way along Main Street. I would like to know how many participated... it took them over 10 minutes to all make their way onto the street and they were walking/danced at a brisk pace. I would guess they filled almost all of the parade route at one point. I looked up the group online and found out it is the same group that performs on the parade telecasts. They have several gatherings a year and this was their summer one in Anaheim. FYI if you are curious when they do filming, looking at their website it looks like the Disneyland taping will be around November 8-10 and the Walt Disney World around Dec 5-8.
