Trip Log:

Was greeted at the Mickey and Friends Tram stop with quite a few guests and grad nite kids waiting at the tram stop so I opted to walk. Crossed the street and entered Downtown Disney. Noticed no line for the Monorail so went for a ride, unfortunately only Manny and Mona running again. Once in Disneyland noticed no line so went back to Downtown Disney to allow myself a couple Buena Vista Street pictures. Roamed through Downtown Disney on my way to California Adventure. Walked through Condor Flats, Carthay Circle and out to the Blue Sky Cellar. Took some pictures of the new exhibit items and then hung out there to watch the 2:00pm Pixar Play Parade. After the pararde walked through the Wharf, stopping at Ghirardelli and then hiked out to the Pier, past the Cove Bar, Screamin, and Toy Story on my way to the Fun Wheel. The line was all the way up toward the exit, a good 40-45 minutes long probably.. so I kept on walking by Paradise Gardens and finished the loop of the Pier. Walked down the Parade Route and through Bugs to get to Sunset Blvd. Continued on down Hollywood Blvd and Carthay Circle as I headed for Disneyland. Roamed down Main Street and around the hub walked through Frontierland and out to the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree. All was quiet out there. Continued on through Fantasyland and around the Matterhorn to Tomorrowland. Decided to go for a second spin on the Monorail to catch the other side of Buena Vista Street. After my round trip ride walked through Tomorrowland and back to Fantasyland, decided to grab some dinner at Village Haus then strolled along the Rivers of America and out to Critter Country. Circled around and then back to Frontierland to catch the last Billy Hill show of the evening. After the Billies walked through Adventureland and back to Main Street. Spent some time in the Disney Gallery since there is only a few more weeks of the trains then decided to watch Soundsational since I was on Main Street already and it was just about to start. After the parade crossed back to DCA walked around GRR for a while. Walked through Condor Flats and Carthay Circle on my way for a second pass through the Blue Sky Cellar followed by Ghirardelli. Some of the group grabbed dinner in the Wharf area and then headed for the Mad T Party by way of Bugsland. Listened to the last set of the evening and roamed around the Mad T Party for a while. Then headed for the park exit and walked back to the structure to head for the car and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 16,583 steps, 147 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

Friday was a more relaxing day at the Disneyland Resort for me. With only one major new addition to photograph and most of the construction wrapped up I was actual able to keep my raw photo count to under 500, first time in a long time that has happened. The crowds at the parks were moderate, and felt lighter than the past two weeks. We commented on how this seemed to be the calm before the storm. There was another Grad Nite so that made for some long posted wait times on a couple attractions and there were Cast Member previews going on for Cars Land and Buena Vista Street so that added to the crowd too.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • I started my day off with a quick trip on the Monorail since I was walking by and there was no line. Unfortunately no sign of Mandy Monorail (blue), just orange and red on the beam again this week. Maybe someday I will get to experience the third spiel.

  • Walked through Downtown Disney and took a look through the windows at the new Wonderground Gallery, it looks interesting/different. It opened on Saturday so hopefully I will be able to stop by and check it out soon.

  • I headed to DCA first because I wanted to see the new Blue Sky Cellar exhibit. They updated the Road to Cars Land to feature the Museum of the History of Radiator Springs. As you saw in my photos the update mostly took place in the screening room with a section devoted to history of Stanleys radiator cap business and then another wall to the residents of Radiator Springs. There were a couple new signs/displays in the main room, but everything else looked untouched. Right now the video playing is a time lapse showing the evolution of the town. Starting next week they will be playing a Mater short about the history, Time Travel Mater. I was surprised there was no audio or anything to go with the video, below you can see a recording I made Friday:

  • I think it is great how they have kept updating the Blue Sky Cellar over its run. I really hope this continues to look forward at upcoming changes around the Resort. The latest change is an interesting one to me that instead of looking forward it is filling in the backstory for Cars Land. Hopefully the regular day guests appreciate and visit as much as us Disney Geeks... so they keep the exhibits coming.

  • The Pixar Play Parade ran two times Friday, as it will daily starting next week when it officially returns. The times were 2pm starting from the Pier and 5pm starting at Tower of Terror. I want to update a note from last week. I said Jack Jack did not spit fire anymore.. from what I have gathered he does out on the Pier but near the Red Car lines he does not. The parade was still not listed in the guide maps/time schedules and you had to rely on the park wide announcement and cast members. This will change next Friday when it officially starts.

  • Nothing else too interesting jumped out at me as I roamed around California Adventure. There were some new signs, a fixed billboard, painting, and other rehab projects underway in preparation for relaunch of the park next week.

  • Spend some time roaming around Disneyland and took in a Billy Hill show before they are moved out to the Ranch for the summer. According to the schedule it looks like the Laughing Stock gang will be inside the Horseshoe this summer.

  • Wrapped up the evening at Mad T Party since some in the group had not seen it yet. Noticed a couple different singers this week, which makes sense that there are several that can play each role to sustain the show. So far I think the first night had the best, but then again it could be because everything was new they left a more favorable impression. The crowds seemed substantially lighter this week, there were actually some open gaps around us and the arcade only had a handful of people in it. I was only there for the 9:00pm set so maybe everyone already headed over to World of Color and all the Grad Nite kids were in line for Tower of Terror or something.

  • A note on the up coming week. I will be at the Disneyland Resort four of the next five days so be sure to follow on Twitter @disneygeekcom or at the Geeks Blog for my latest postings. As of right now my schedule is:
    • Monday - Annual Passholder Preview
    • Wednesday - Cars Land Grand Opening Arrivals & Opening Ceremony (note Disney is Webcasting this too so check the parks blog)
    • Thursday - Buena Vista Street Premieres, Cars Land Exploration, and a Celebration of Buena Vista Street
    • Friday - Grand Reopening of Disney California Adventure then hope to spend some time at Disneyland as the summer festivities kick off there
I will try to post some pictures and video as the week goes on but expect the large updates to go up over the weekend.
