Trip Log:

Started off this overcast Saturday afternoon arriving at the park just before 4pm. Headed for DCA first to meet the Lazygeek and his family, they were grabbing a bite to eat on the Backlot. Hung out with them for a while and then walked the parade route out to the Pier. Stopped by the Cars Meet and Greet on the way out to the Pier. walked around by Screamin, the Fun Wheel, and into the new Park area. Took some pictures and carried on by the Swings, through the corridor of walls and past the Mermaid building. Strolled around GRR and some stopped at Redwood Creek and a couple of us headed for the Grand Californian and some more shots of DCA and then onto the Disneyland Hotel. Walked back through Downtown Disney and rejoined the group as they entered Disneyland. Wandered down Main Street and out to Frontierland. Grabbed Fastpasses for Big Thunder and then some dinner at the Stage Door Cafe (ended up eating in the Golden Horseshoe). After dinner decided to go get in line for the Pirates Sneak Peek, it was just before 7pm. After Pirates some went on Big Thunder and I headed off to Tomorrowland to get some pictures before rejoining everyone on Main Street as we headed out to call it an evening. Decided to walk back to the garage and then head home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 10,630 steps, 95 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

Saturday was an overcast and cooler day here in Southern California. After hitting 100 in the valleys a few days ago this with a big contrast. The crowds in the park were heavy as the extended spring break season continues on. I would say summer heavy, but not holiday crazy yet. Wait times for the big attractions were well over an hour. We had a fairly short agenda so the crowds really did not effect us except we had to work our way through the masses as we navigated the parks and Downtown Disney.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • As you saw in the pictures the construction is moving along on all fronts at DCA
    • The Carthay Circle theater rolling along. It was a little odd to walk in the gate and see a large crane right there. All signs of the impressive things to come.
    • The new archway/dome at the Mermaid entrance definitely stood out to me. It seemed off when compared to the rest of the building. I am guessing this is by design for some reason (I am an engineer not an artist so not sure why). Overall though the Mermaid area is looking great with the new building, paint jobs, and trees.
    • It was nice to see the walkway re-opened and be able to get around the Pier again in a complete circle.
    • The dining area and Goofys Sky School are moving along, hard to believe they will be open in approx two months.

  • The new park in the former Maliboomer area (anyone know the name of this area now??) came out to be about what I expected. I am still surprised the platform was kept but the rest looks ok as a placeholder till a new attraction takes over the area some day. I think the problem some geeks are having out there is the construction signs said lush new park and they had grand visions for the space. Lush is not the correct adjective to use, but there are a lot of plants and to me its nicer than the Maliboomer. The main problem I have with the area is that Screamin is so loud it is not a peaceful park by any stretch of the imagination. It should be interesting how the area is once completed. Also they have the smoking area located at the old exit area. Wonder if that will still be used for the characters and if so where the smoking area is heading next.

  • I was surprised the Cars Meet and Greet did not have a bigger line. I walked by a couple of times and only saw a couple of groups each time. Less than a 5 minute wait.

  • Out at the Disneyland Hotel the new monorail on the water slide tower looks good. Cannot wait to see the rest of it.

  • On the way back to the park I stopped by the Rain Forest Cafe to see about using a certificate that I had. I made a quick pass through the gift shop and was surprised by the lack of items under $10 that drew my interest. In the past I was able to find a pin or golf ball or something. This trip nothing stood out to me at all. The line for dining was long as to be expected on a Saturday evening.

  • Over at Disneyland the crowds were heavy too but not unbearable. I was pleasantly surprised by the short line for food at the Stage Door Cafe. Only one person in front of me, still took over 5 minutes for some odd reason. I swear the CM counted the $9 cash they used to pay at least four times then to top it off the cheese sticks they ordered were not ready and it was going to be a 10 minute wait for them. Luckily they had plenty of chicken nuggets (and fish too if you wanted that).

  • Big Thunder had a 30 minute stand by wait posted and the Fastpass Return times were a little over an hour out only. The area was still very crowded with the ongoing work across the walkway. The stand by queue wrapped around the park area.

  • Caught the Pirates Sneak Peek again. Things were a little more organized this week with some ropes set up to form the queue on the Big Thunder Trail and the cars moved to the other side of the walkway. We waited longer to get in theater this week. I think the line started moving by 7:20 to put us in the petting zoo area but we were no in the theater until after 7:45. We got out about ten after eight. Wonder if they will start to post show times eventually. That may help to spread the crowd out. I talked to someone who went Sunday and they said the CMs were walking the line telling guests if they came back after the fireworks those shows have been walkins.

  • While skimming through the time schedule I noticed the Disney Dance Crew was only performed on Sun, Wed, and Thursday.. and Aladdin only had 3 shows on Saturday. Was there something going on on the Backlot? I did not notice this while in the park so I did not make it over there to see.
