Trip Log:

Started off this cool afternoon heading to DCA and checking out all the new construction walls and signage around the entrance Plaza and old Sunshine Plaza area. Made my way up the parade route and out to the Pier. Verred by GRR to get a couple pictures and grab a World of Color Fastpass and caught a little of the Miner 49ers. Headed back to the Pier. The Disney Channel Rocks show was going on so caught the last song or so of that while taking some shots of the Little Mermaid work. Then headed out around the Pier. Made my way to the Fun Wheel and went for a trip (only a 5 min wait and got my own car even!). Once back on land continued on to the Swings to get some shots of the new dining area. Finished the loop by riding the Zephyr. Then walked by Mermaid and through the Wharf to get to the Blue Sky Cellar. Continued on through Bugsland and out to the Backlot. Made my way by Monsters and Muppets and back to the Sunshine Plaza. Walked through Condor Flats and over to the Grand Californian. Crossed the street and walked by the Disneyland Hotel work. Spent some time walking around there then hopped on the Monorail to Disneyland. Opted to jump back in line and do a round trip on the Monorail before heading down to Tomorrowland. Walked by Captain EO and Buzz (grabbing a Fastpass for Buzz) then out to the hub. Strolled into Adventureland and over the Pirates bridge into NOS. Took some shots of the Haunted Mansion then walked out to Critter Country to see if anything was going on. Wandered back along the Rivers of America and around the Big Thunder Trail through Fantasyland and out to Small World. The line was longer than my patience so continued on to Toontown. Circled the area then headed back to Tomorrowland by circling around the Matterhorn. Found myself back on Main Street and took some shots of the Castle and caught 4 high school bands marching down the street. Spent some time on Main Street then caught a group at Plaza Gardens followed by some of the Flag Retreat then over to DCA. Headed down the Backlot and saw the finale to the Dance Crew. Decided it was time to search for some dinner and ended up at Taste Pilots since it was inside and a warm. After eating it was back to Disneyland and out to the Golden Horseshoe (after some castle shots) to watch the Billys last performance of the day. Then walked over to Small World and went for a ride. Headed back to Main Street for some more Castle and other random shots then over to DCA. Walked out to the Pier to get some Mermaid shots then headed to the Backlot to catch the 7:30 Laser Man show. After the show spent some time at ElecTRONica and before going back to the Pier to do one more loop and check out the Toy Story line. Still too long. At this point decided to head to Disneyland to catch Fantasmic. After the show walked back through Adventureland and hopped on the Jungle Cruise during Remember. Made it out to Main Street just as the show concluded and worked my way through the masses to exit the park and head for the tram, car, and home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 24,163 steps, 207 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

I was expecting Friday to be a quiet day at the parks, maybe boarding on a light off season crowd. Instead what I found was a regular Friday afternoon/evening crowd. Wait times were mostly manageable, but I was still hoping for some minimal waits. For example Toy Story was in the 45 min range all afternoon/evening, I was hoping for under 30 minutes.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • As you saw in the pictures the theme of day at DCA was construction. The walls have been pushed out in several places and new walls up in others, with more to come in the near future as work kicks into high gear around the park. I really enjoyed the new signs up on the walls around the old Sunshine Plaza area advertising the upcoming Buena Vista street entities.

  • Overall I thought the new entrance procedure for DCA was moving fairly smoothly. I thought the CMs were a little over the top trying to get you to go to the end turn styles. If there is no one there and no one really behind you seems they could quickly scan your pass and let you through vs making you walk all the way down and yelling toward you to keep going down. It would not be a good first contact at the park to have several people talking loudly at you telling you to keep moving. Maybe some more directions as you were walking through the queue. I did like how the CMs were asking people to have their tickets ready, etc.. that seemed to keep things moving too.

  • Over at the Disneyland Hotel the renovation work is moving along at a good pace now but from ground level it is hard to judge the progress on the pool area. Anyone have shots from a room overlooking the courtyard recently??

  • It was odd to roam around both parks with no parades scheduled for the day. Disneyland still managed to march four bands down Main Street though. Too bad they did not slow them down to make more of an event out of it. Since there was no parade coming behind them seems they could have. My understanding is the paving project on Main Street will continue this off season so soon more walls will be up and the street will be partially blocked. This will go until the new parade starts in a few months. Over at DCA the parade route is blocked due to the Buena Vista Street, Little Mermaid, and dining area work. The Play Parade is going to be dark until later this year.

  • Grabbed dinner at Taste Pilots, mostly because I was at DCA already and there was no line and some empty tables. It still surprises me that for the same burger it is cheaper at Disneyland. I noticed on the receipt they have the Let the Memories Begin logo now. Wonder if the software on the point of sale system will ever be updated to properly scan the Premiere passes or to not print out ads for annual passes when you apply an AP discount to the order.

  • Not much to report on the guide map/time guide front. The time guides are back to their traditional format and content. Laser Man is not listed anymore, but the Flag Retreat and ASIMO still are. On the maps as you saw in the pictures the DCA map is starting to look a little bare as they keep removing items. Soon new things should start showing up, only a few more months till Mermaid, the dining area, and new park.
