Trip Log:

Started off this brief visit being directed to the Pinocchio Lot instead of the Downtown Disney lot we were aiming for. Parked the car and then walked across the street and over to Downtown Disney. Headed into ESPN Zone for an early dinner/late lunch and to catch the end of some football games. After our meal strolled through Downtown Disney and ended up heading into DCA. Walked down the Parade route and was directed into the Wharf to reach the Pier due to construction near the Bay Area. Walked around the Pier taking some pictures of the World of Color Work. Made it around to the Zephyr and went for a spin then headed to the Bay Area and around GRR on my way to the Grand Californian. Walked through the Lobby then out toward the front of the hotel. Crossed Disneyland Drive and circled the Disneyland Hotel work on my way back to rejoin my group near ESPN before heading back to the car and over to the Pond (yeah I called it the Pond.. I do not like the new name) to catch a Ducks game.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

I was heading down to Anaheim on Saturday to attend the Ducks game over at the Pond (still do not like the new name so I call it the Pond...), anyways we decided to stop at Downtown Disney, more specifically ESPN Zone for dinner to catch the end of some College Football games before heading to the arena. Due to there being no real wait and the traffic not being that bad I had about an hour of free time so I made a quick run through DCA. There seemed to be a fair number of guests roaming the park but wait times did not seem that bad.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • I was not sure what to expect in terms of parking and traffic and was pleasantly surprised to find no real hassle at all. We arrived around 3:30 and were back on the road by 5:45pm. We were directed into the Pinocchio lot instead of Downtown Disney, which seemed odd since the DD lot did not seem full yet. Also interesting to note there was no charge to park (no tickets or anything, guess for the hassle of walking you get free parking).

  • It has been quite a while, well over a year, maybe more since my last visit to the ESPN Zone for a meal. We took advantage of the priority seating request thanks to the ESPN MVP club. Unfortunately there was no real wait so not sure how much if anything it save me. All the TVs have been upgraded to high definition sets and this made a huge difference. It was great to sit in the screening room and watch the end of a half dozen college football games at once. I took a peak into the Studio and noticed a large screen in there now too, that was not there last time I visited. Overall our experience was great. The food was good and arrived with no problems as ordered. Also note you can get your Annual Pass discount on weekends now too.

  • Sanuk, a new Sandal store, has opened between Little Mismatched and the RideMakerz stores. From what I read this is a temporary store/location. I took a quick peak around and the staff seemed very friendly. After snapping a few pictures I was asked not to take anymore as it is their policy to not allow photography inside the store. I did not see any signs posted (as other stores have done, like the Island Charters). This seemed odd to me, just like the other new kids store down by the theaters. You are in a tourist friendly environment and what you are selling is not that unique or even interesting and they do not want pictures taken. The one difference is the manager here was much more friendly than the one at the other store. So I left happy with the couple I did take.

  • I had about an hour so I decided to take a quick pass through DCA and tried to walk around quickly to beat the setting sun. As I mentioned above the lines were not too bad. The Fun Wheel was only about 10 minutes for non swinging and maybe 15 for swinging. The Zephyr was a walk on. Toy Story was about 40 minutes as usual. I did not catch Screamins wait time.

  • In reviewing the time schedule for the day I was pleasantly surprised to see the Flag Retreat at Disneyland has made it back onto the list. Its at 4:30 this time of year. On the DCA side Santas Seaside Pavilion is now at the top and its only open from 10:30am to 5pm. With all the lights in the area I would have thought it would stay open into the evening.

  • I cut through the Grand Californian on my way back to Downtown Disney to see if any of their Christmas decorations were up, and so far nothing really is. Guess the resorts are last to get their decorations.
