1/19/04 - A rant about a Disneyland Resort Ad

Time for a rant… its been a while… Has anyone seen or heard the new commercials promoting the two for one pass for Southern California residents? For those who have not or live outside the market. Disney is currently running spots that revolve around a woman waiting in a car dealership as the salesmen discuss how to explain to her that the dealership is not Disneyland and she cannot buy one car and get one free.

I want to know why they no longer show Disneyland, DCA, or even a Disney character in the advertisement. The print ads still do, they mostly feature Goofy with a mirror of himself. Are they ashamed to show DCA alongside of Disneyland? And since you cannot show one to be consistent you cannot show the other? Or is it they now believe that Southern Californians don’t need to see anything Disney to advertise for Disney? Or is it because there is absolutely nothing new to show? Well there are plenty of new construction walls and even a segway or two to ride out in Innoventions. Oh yeah that’s right no one cares about that… Across the Esplanade even less is happening right now.

I think they should be showing the parks. You can even push the classic Disneyland attractions and I am sure throwing Soarin’ or a DEP into an ad won’t hurt. I am still running into people who do not know the parade is still at DCA. Some think its gone, some still insist that it’s at Disneyland. Why not throw it in. I am not a marketing person but I would think showing your product is the way to go…. But then again I do remember the current ads which after all is the point of advertising right??
