10/28/11 - My thoughts and observations from Fridays visit to the Disneyland Resort

Hello all,

Friday was a perfect Southern California fall day. The temps were in the 80s when I arrived at the parks just after lunch and it cooled down into the 60s by the time I was heading home. Crowds were much lighter this week with DCA actually feeling like an off season day early in the afternoon. By nightfall with the Halloween Party at Disneyland and the early closing both parks got much more crowded.

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • As I mentioned the wait times at DCA in the early afternoon were non existent. Walked onto the Fun Wheel. Toy Story was posted at 30 minutes. Tower of Terror was a walk on as was the Little Mermaid.

  • I think it is great how even in as little as a week noticeable changes are happening on all the projects around the resort. Cars Land looks more impressive by the day. Early indicators for Buena Vista Street are starting to emerge. And the Disneyland Hotel is on its final push before opening so details and finishing touches are popping up quickly.

  • Christmas is quickly making itself known from the gift shops, to lighting, to the most obvious, Snow on the Castle. The Holidays officially kick off Veterans Day weekend (Nov. 11th) but many of the decorations will be up the week before. Also rumor is they will be taping the Christmas parade that weekend before for the Christmas Day TV broadcast.

  • I grabbed a corn dog for dinner from the Stage Door Cafe and sat at a table near the River Belle Terrace that overlooked the walkway so I could watch the parade of costumes (as were several other tables nearby). It was a sight to behold. You saw everything and every shape and size character you could imagine. Several left us shaking our heads and others were just a bit odd/off. But some were really well done and over the top. Overall a fun way to spend dinner.

  • I again stuck around for the beginning of the Halloween Party and took in some of the sights on Main Street as things started to ramp up for the evening. The traffic flow seemed better this week, I attribute that to the lighter crowd in the park, the party itself was sold out again.
