2/14/25 - Disneyland Resort - President's Day Weekend

Hello everyone,

Friday was a crowded day at the Disneyland Resort. With the president's day holiday weekend, Valentine's Day, and a number of bad weather days leading up to it the parks felt crowded throughout the day and very crowded as the sun set. Wait times were on the higher side too most of the time I looked, plus a number of attractions seemed to be having bad days with extended downtimes. The weather turned out to be mild topping out around 60 but the sun made it feel warmer and dropping only to the mid 50s before I left.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • When I arrived at the parking structure I was greeted with all lanes backed up to the entrance. It took a good 20 minutes to go through the line. Of course I picked a lane that only had one cast member working in the booth so we moved slightly slower than the other lanes. I did notice by the time I parked, went through security (which had no wait), and boarded a tram the parking line was a fraction of what it was when we entered. So seems I had poor timing.
  • Started my visit with a walk around Disneyland to see if anything interesting was going on. After walking the park there was not.
  • The Valentine's Day celebration consisted of a few photo props and some merchandise from what I could tell. There were no decorations, large photo backdrops or characters. I thought maybe something in the Cavalcade, but there was not. The Dapper Dans did say Happy Valentine's day but no special costumes or songs. The Disneyland Band also mentioned Valentine's Day which led into their Star Wars Medley as a classic love film. Compared to years past this year seemed even less.
  • The Dapper Dan's set I was watching was cut short. They got a signal and stopped their banter, said Happy Valentine's Day and left. It was rather awkward. I could not tell why. Their mics and speakers all seemed fine as did all four of the performers.
  • The new Madame Leota's Somewhere Beyond shop has walls up around the front entrance in New Orleans Square. Seems they have a drainage problem that is being addressed. The store was open with only the door facing the Haunted Mansion available. This made it feel very crowded to me.
  • I passed through Avengers Campus a number of times to see if anything was going on for the new Captain America film. I had seen earlier in the day they had a moment for Captain America but there was nothing the handful of times I passed through the area throughout the afternoon and into the evening. I asked a couple cast members and they had no information. I did not even get a glimpse of Captain America out. So either I had really bad timing or he was only out in the morning. A new Captain America Shield sipper was available for purchase but other than that not much for the new film. The sippers were selling, but not drawing massive queues like popcorn bucket releases.
  • The Cozy Cone project looked to have wrapped up based on reports earlier in the week but today the new archway for the seating area was covered. Wonder if this was due to the recent rain or some other issue. The seating area was open and you could walk under it to enter/exit the area. The rest of the walls in the area are removed. A new centralized ordering station is now behind the main building with two queues and four registers. At the cones there are two lines one for mobile orders and one for regular orders. The ordering queue seemed really short to non existent the few times I walked through. There were backups to pick up orders at several of the cones though.
  • The Mulan Procession today featured a different assortment of performers than previous weeks. Also noteworthy for the after dark ones there were no lights on the performers or dragon.
  • When I left Downtown Disney just after 8pm the security queue coming from the parking structure was backed up throughout the former valet driveway. We passed a constant stream of guests heading to Downtown Disney which made us assume security at the garage was backed up and they were seeking a shorter wait. When we reached the garage our hunch was confirmed and the queues there were filling nearly the entire barricaded area. In the garage there were a large number of cars moving around on each floor as some were entering looking for spaces and others like us leaving so it was slow going to exit. The line of cars entering the garage was solid backed up onto the I-5 off ramp.
