Trip Log:

The off season has arrived at the Disneyland Resort, so I spent the afternoon/evening enjoying the less crowded park. I started off heading for Disneyland. Stepped onto Main Street and hopped aboard the Omni Bus since it was boarding. Rode up Main Street and disembarked near the castle. Walked into Tomorrowland and went for a spin on the Astro Orbitor since there was no line. Then I continued into Tomorrowland. Walked by Space Mountain (only a 5 minute wait) and then Nemo (which had a 30 minute wait). Headed out to Small World to see what was new and decided to go for a round trip ride on the Disneyland Railroad. Once back at Toontown station walked up to Toontown, made the circle then headed to Fantasyland. Walked by the Castle and then through the new crystal shop. Walked around the Big Thunder Trail and then the Rivers of America on my way to Critter Country. Looped around and then back through the harbor and to NOS. Stopped to see if you could see anything through the walls, not really, then continued on to Adventureland and back to Main Street. Headed over to DCA. Walked through Condor Flats, grabbed a Fastpass for Soarin, passed GRR and entered the Pier area. Walked by MM and stopped to grab some shots of Burger Invasion. Continued on to the Sun Wheel and went for one last trip around the Sun (work begins in a week or so). Then decided to go on Toy Story, used the single rider line, about 10 minutes, the regular line was 25. Scored a new high score for myself, 178,000. After Toy Story wandered around and back to the front of the park. Decided to head to Disneyland to catch the Flag Retreat, after the ceremony back to DCA and grabbed dinner at Taste Pilots. After dinner decided to watch the Pixar Play Parade from the entrance plaza and then strolled down the Backlot. Went for a ride on Monsters since there was no line at all then walked by the Hyperion and Tower of Terror before heading over to the Bay Area. Stopped by Golden Dreams for one last viewing of the film (this shuts down next week) and then out to the Pier. The crowd was starting to pick up but I was hoping to get on Toy Story again, unfortunately the wait was up to 40 minutes and the single rider line looked to be over a dozen people too (which 20-30 minutes probably), so I made the loop and then headed over to the Grand Californian. Walked by the construction and then out to Downtown Disney. Walked through the World of Disney and into Disneyland. Strolled down Main Street and into Tomorrowland. Decided to jump in line for Nemo since it was only 30 minutes. After Nemo went for a night cruise on the Mark Twain (since Fantasmic is not being performed) and then wandered into Adventureland. The Tiki Room was boarding so stopped by there. After the show headed down Main Street and back to the garage, car and headed home.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Actual Walking Time: 2:26:58
* 92 steps per minute average
* 2.54 mph average

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

* After you read this report you may want to check out the pictorial updates in our Disneyland Resort Pictorial Update section

Hello all,

Friday was a great day at the Disneyland Resort. The off-season has arrived so the crowds have left. Thoughout most of the afternoon you were able to roam the park and ride whatever you wanted without any substantial waits. Its been quite a while since I have seen the park this quiet on a Friday afternoon with great weather. For example Space Mountain had a 5 minute wait, Nemo was under 30, as was Toy Story Mania. Soarins line was just barely out the door and GRR was a near walk on (and considering it was mid 80s that was amazing).

Disneyland & DCA Thoughts and Observations:

  • As you saw in the pictorial update this brief off-season before the HalloweenTime promotion kicks off was met with quite a few walls going up around Disneyland. DCAs walls will be going up in the coming days/weeks. Due to the extremely light crowd though there really was no impact on traffic flow in any of the areas.

  • Both parks feature new guidemaps. The Disneyland one is a night scene of Tomorrowland with the new Mark VII monorails overhead, the subs and Space Mountain below. Too bad the monorails are not operational yet... Also I found it interesting that in the picture there are no railings and the area does look much nicer that way... too bad people would walk, fall, get pushed, etc.. into the lagoon if it were really that way. The DCA guide features Toy Story Midway Mania. The interesting thing to me is how on the cover it says Toy Story Mania but inside its referred to as Toy Story Midway Mania on both the fold out and the main map.

  • Is the Year of a Million Dreams (part II) finally wrapping up? The cups around both parks have been replaced with generic Coke cups. Anyone know if this is something new (maybe Coke is paying more) or is this a placeholder till the new campaign starts? Also I noticed last week but did not comment on it that the napkins have no logos on them anymore. Is this a cost saving measure or again due to the switchover?? Anyone know?

  • I stopped by Golden Dreams for one last showing. According to the blurb I saw it closed the 7th even though construction on the Little Mermaid attraction is not slated to start until next year. Guess people have had enough of Whoopi?

  • I decided to take a ride on Nemo since it was under 30 minutes, took only about 25 minutes which was not bad considering only six subs were running. Also interesting to note this was the first time I have entered the queue near the front of the attraction.. Another first, I managed to get on the right side of the sub (the rear entrance) for some reason (dumb luck) the previous trips I have always been on the left (or front loading side). Also this was my first ride after dark. I think the lighting in the main lagoon makes it slightly more interesting... much harder to take pictures though.

  • Since there was no Fantasmic the Mark Twain was operating into the evening, one of my favorite experiences to ride around the Rivers of America on a warm summer evening... just a nice way to relax. Seems this was a fairly popular idea as the boat was pretty full with the railings filled on the top two decks.
