Trip Log:

Started off my morning as it was just getting light outside. I was up before 7am.   We ate and were out the door to catch a bus before 7:30am. Arrived at Disney’s Animal Kingdom around 7:40am and headed for Asia.  Thought to check the app for the opening time for the Jungle Trek once we were almost there.. oops it was 8:45am this morning, so changed course and headed for Africa.   Arrived at Kilimanjaro Safari at 8:02am, the other early entry guests had entered the queue and the mass of day guests were visible entering Harambe as we entered the queue.  We were on a truck in under 15 minutes and on our way.  After our Safari returned to Asia to see the tigers.     Then made my way to the front of the park and out to the bus stops.  Decided to catch a bus to the Grand Floridian and then the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom, which took just about an hour from the Tree of Life to Main Street USA.   Boarded the train and disembarked in Frontierland.   Caught a showing of the Country Bear Musical Jamboree then ate lunch at Columbia Harbour House.   After lunch enjoyed some music by the Main Street Philharmonic and then the Dapper Dans before catching bus back to the Boardwalk.   Did some packing while a storm blew through then headed for EPCOT via Friendship Launch.   Walked around to the American Adventure for the 3:45pm Voices of Liberty Concert then grabbed a bite to eat in France and met up with some friends.   Listened to a little of the Sugar Ray concert before enjoying the group in Germany one final time.  After their show hung out waiting for some friends who were at the concert then we walked around World Showcase and into World Celebration.  Walked to the front of the park and watched a few Beacon of Magic sequences before making our way back to World Showcase for Luminous to wrap up the night.

Thoughts & Observations:

  • This morning we were up early and out the door on our way to Disney’s Animal Kingdom by 7:30am.   We arrived at the park in the middle of the early morning period.  Non of the attractions that were open drew our interest so we debated about heading to Africa for a Safari or Asia to see the tiger cub. We decided to see if the tiger cub was active early.  We arrived in Asia and it was quiet.  Kali River Rapids had a posted opening time of 9am this morning.  There were a few guests by the Jungle Trek but no cast members.  At this point I thought to check the app for the opening time and learned it did not open until 8:45am..  I really should have checked that before hiking through the park.  So we called an audible and headed to Africa.  We arrived just as the first 8am regular park guests were coming across the bridge. We could see the large group heading our way. We got in line just as the attraction was about to open and had a minimal wait of under 15 minutes.
  • Unfortunately, our Safari was terrible. There were not that many animals out, and when there was nothing in sight, our drive was silent, so about 2/3 of the trip was dead silent, which was awkward. I wish they would at least bring back the music.  On the main savanna, I saw more trucks with cast members than animals, I think.   I learned later in the day today they were introducing a baby giraffe so I think that was the reason and we missed it.
  • After our disappointing Safari we returned to Asia and were able to see Bakso play a little bit with his mother and move around a bit more than other visits. Overall though not a lot of activity.
  • Decided to head to the Magic Kingdom for lunch and to see what was going on there.  It was still about 20 minutes until the park to park buses were to start running when we arrived at the bus stop so we decided to take the bus to the Grand Floridian and then catch the Monorail.  In the end this ended up costing us more time but was slightly more interesting/fun.   The bus was slow to arrive and we left only a few minutes before 10am.  Then having to stop at the Polynesian plus transfer to the Monorail costs us more time than the direct bus would have.
  • It was too early for lunch so we decided to ride the train and visit the Country Bears, it was a relaxing way to spend the late morning.
  • We arrived at Columbia Harbour House, found a seat, and picked up our mobile order. Luckily, it was before the lunch rush, so it was calm inside.  We always enjoy eating upstairs with the views out to Liberty Square. As we sat there looking out at the Rivers of America it dawned on me that this is another of those relaxing aspects of the Magic Kingdom that will disappear. The view of the river and island is going to be replaced with ones of the Cars attraction.
  • Returned to Main Street to catch the Philharmonic and noticed one of the floats from the Cavalcade had broken down and was about to be towed backstage. I arrived just as the tow started to move.
  • As we watched the Philharmonic and Dapper Dans I kept one eye on the sky. Some rain was approaching the area from the south. You could see the clouds building and feel the weather changing.  As soon as the Dapper Dans wrapped up, I walked quickly to the bus stops, where I caught a bus back to the Boardwalk.
  • Decided to return to the room for a bit to pack up and avoid the rain. We watched the rain bands blow through from the balcony which was much more pleasant than being out in the rain.
  • After the rain cleared the area we looked at the schedule and decided to head to EPCOT and catch a performance by the Voices of Liberty.
  • The crowd at EPCOT felt moderate, for a Monday evening.  It was definitely less than the weekend but not light.  Part of the reason for this may be tonight was an extended evening for Deluxe Resort guests.
  • I closed out my last evening this trip visiting with friends and walking World Showcase and World Celebration followed by Luminous the Symphony of Us from near Refreshment Port.
