May 8, 2025 - Day 3: Tokyo Disneyland

I was up bright and early again, but slept longer than yesterday, 5am today.   Grabbed some breakfast around 6:30 when they opened and in between posted some pictures.  Left the room around 8:45am to walk to the Resort Line and catch a Monorail to Disneyland.  Arrived at the Tokyo Disneyland Station at 9:04am and I was in the park by 9:17am.  Took a look at some of the decorations then made my way through World Bazaar and out to Fantasyland.  Winnie the Pooh was not open yet so found a place to sit and try the entry request for the shows. They opened the queue as I started so was able to walk onto Winnie the Pooh.  Then tried the entry request and failed for the two shows.  I did pick up a 40th anniversary pass for Monsters Inc though.  Decided to pay a visit to the Haunted Mansion.  It was posted at 25 and took only 18 to reach the foyer.  Then walked next door to see it’s a small world with Groot.   Kept the boat theme with a cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat followed by the Jungle Cruise then the Western River Railroad.    Stopped for a bite to eat at the Waffle Co and then across in Tomorrowland at Pizza Port.   After lunch caught the BD-X Droids..  Spent some time in World Bazaar including a concert at the park entrance by the Tokyo Disneyland Band.  Saw a number of characters out too.   Then returned to Tomorrowland to take a look at the Space Mountain construction.   Found a spot in the central plaza for the 3:00pm Quacky Celebration – Donald the Legend.  After the parade decided to visit the Happy Ride with Baymax.  It was posted at 50 minutes by the time I got there, this turned out to be accurate.    Used the 40th Anniversary Pass for Monsters Inc. Ride and Seek.   The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast as posted at 70 minutes turned out to be 40 to the preshow.   Walked back through Fantasyland and found a spot to have a snack then roamed around Splash Mountain and Westernland until 7:00ish.  Decided to find a spot for Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights which started at 7:15pm.   After the parade walked through Adventureland to World Bazaar. Some of the group called it a night at that point.  I crossed over to Tomorrowland and walked onto Star Tours.  Returned to the central plaza as they made an announcement that the fireworks were canceled due to weather (winds).   Stuck around and watch the 8:35pm Reach for the Stars projection show.   Then exited the park and caught a Resort Liner back to Bayside Station.  As I walked down the stairs the Resort Cruiser pulled and the door was open so I walked right in and took the short ride back tonight vs walking.

Thoughts & Observations
  • I was up early again, but nowhere near as early as yesterday.  The full park day yesterday helped a lot.
  • We waited around to let the initial rush and wait to get into Tokyo Disneyland diminish. We arrived just after 9 and had less than 15 minutes from the Resort Line to the World Bazaar.
  • Donald’s Quacky Duck! Duck! Duck City!, the fourth installment of Disney Pal-Palooza, is taking place at Tokyo Disneyland.   It started in April and runs through June. The event features decorations, merchandise, food, and a parade. As soon as you enter the park, the planter and World Bazaar are decked out in Donald banners, ducks, and other decorations.   The decorations were on par with previous events in the park and were in a number of places with several photo ops available.    I found it to be a fun event and the guests really seemed into it with a large number buying various things that quack.
  • I walked out to Fantasyland to start my day.   Pooh’s Hunny Hunt was not open yet due to some technical difficulties so we decided to find a spot nearby to hang out and see how close it was.  While waiting I tried my luck at the Standby Requests for the shows, and failed for both as usual, then took a look at the 40th anniversary pass options and picked up one for Monsters Inc.
  • I continue to be frustrated by the lack of standby and my bad luck for the shows. I refuse to pay extra so that means I go without.
  • Pooh’s Hunny Hunt opened quickly and we were near the front meaning a virtual walk on.
  • It’s a small world with Groot features a number of Marvel characters and some Marvel music in it’s a small world.  The overlay started in January and runs through the end of June.    I thought this was a fun overlay and the characters looked great, but I really did not see the point of it.  They do not fit the theme of the attraction at all and seemed odd.   They do not seem to be drawing big crowds either. Wait times were in the 10-15 minute range every time I checked throughout the day.
  • We always enjoy the pace and view of transportation attractions so a cruise on the Mark Twain was a calm way to spend some time this morning.  It is very easy to forget you are in Tokyo when cruising the river.
  • Adventureland seemed calm this visit with lines that were not bad.  Both the Jungle Cruise and Western River Railroad had wait times under 20 min every time I checked.
  • By contrast the Great American Waffle Company had a lengthy queue most of the day.   The waffles are fresh and a nice snack.
  • Decided to grab lunch at the Pizza Port.  We wanted to eat inside and watch Tony Solaroni but the heat was on and it was not comfortable to sit inside so we opted for the upstairs patio outside.  The construction walls are large and block all views of the Space Mountain area.  Tomorrowland is walled off just past Showbase where Club Mouse Beat is performed (I am now 0 for 5 to get a seat for the show I think).
  • After lunch managed to catch a minute or so of the BD-X Droids in Tomorrowland.  It was fun to see these robots out in the park and the audience interacting with them.   They were out between Star Tours and Monsters Inc.  Like all atmosphere entertainment no schedule was available.
  • Luckily the Disneyland Band plays long enough sets that you can hear them and find them.  I was able to catch them at the park entrance and they put on an entertaining show as usual.
  • Once the band finished characters started to come out to greet guests and they just kept coming.  I counted about two dozen that came out and scattered around the entrance area and World Bazaar.   If you are a character person you would have not known where to go first. I roamed around trying to figure out a way to capture the scene and did not really succeed since they were so spread out and so many.
  • The new Space Mountain is scheduled to open in 2027. No word on when the rest of Tomorrowalnd will open.  I am guessing when the new Wreck-It Ralph attraction opens in 2026 most of the area will be open.  For now you cannot even walk through the land most of the day, at night they did open a corridor to help with traffic flow.
  • Donald the Legend Parade took place twice today, next week it shifts to once a day because Harmony in Color returns.   The parade features Donald Duck and friends. It travels from the Fantasyland parade gate through Westernland making a brief stop then circles the central plaza a couple of times and with show stops then heads back up the parade route.     The parade was fun and reminding me of the World According to Goofy parade Disneyland had years ago. Just an over the top character celebration.   Almost all the lyrics are in Japanese so I had no idea what they were saying but the floats and signage are in English so you get the drift.
  • I did not experience the  Happy Ride With Baymax my last visit in 2023. The wait times were well over an hour all the time and I was not going to pay to ride.  The attraction is the same ride system as Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Woody’s Roundup and Alien Flying Saucers.  I had wanted to ride to complete the set.  Today I decided to give it a go and waited 50 minutes. The mix of Premier Access to Standby was heavily in the DPA favor at times 10 to 1 it appeared.    The ride as you can predict was about the same as the other three.  The cast and other riders were much more energetic than the other parks with many dancing along to the various songs.  It was a fun experience but the 50 min wait pushed my patience.
  • The 40th Anniversary pass system is still in use. This is basically the old FastPass system.  You select an attraction and receive a virtual pass and time to return. All included with park admission. There were a very limited number of attractions on this system but several I visited so it worked out for me and saved me some time.  Today I used it for Monsters Inc.  The posted wait was over an hour and it took just under 20 minutes with the pass.
  • The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast was hovering in the 60-70 minute range much of the day but we noticed the return time if you bought a Disney Premiere Access  was nearly instantly so decided to give a 70 min posted wait a try, it turned out to be under and hour so it worked out in our favor on this one vs Baymax.
  • I really enjoy the Tokyo Electrical Parade Dreamlights and this evening the crowd was not too big. They had the first standing row close with only three or four rows of guests sitting in Westernland where I opted to watch from.
  • Reach for the Stars premiered after my last visit so this was my first time seeing this projection show.  The technology is great. The projections looked crisp and the other effects really added to the show.  The show itself was a typical clips package which was not overly engaging to me.  It was nice and the theme worked well but it was just a clips show.
  • Exiting after Reach for the Stars was very easy. I did choose/remember wrong and had to walk up the steps to the Monorail vs having an escalator. Oops.
  • I had good timing as a resort cruiser was waiting when I reached the bottom of the stairs so I opted to ride back vs walking across the street. I think it still took me longer than walking but it saved some steps.
